A:  Hi, Mike! Thanks for your question. No, this unit #39901 is a manual push unit. If you’re interested in a similar self-propelled unit, we would recommend checking out unit #39921 online at: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Toro-Power-Clear-21-in-60V-Brushless-Cordless-Single-Stage-Electric-Snow-Blower-10-0-Ah-Battery-and-Charger-Included-39921/322430694. Q:Do the auger blades on this unit wear down and have to be periodically replaced like they do on the Toro Power Clear 721 R?
    by|Mar 20, 2023

    Answer This Question

A:  Hi, there! Thanks for your question. Since this unit is a single-stage blower, the scraper makes direct contact with the ground to pick up the snow, leaving you with a clear driveway or sidewalk. You might be interested in a similar two-stage unit, #39924, where the auger doesn’t make direct contact with the ground, making it ideal for both pavement and gravel surfaces. You can view unit 39924 online at: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Toro-60-Volt-Power-Max-E-24-in-2-Stage-Cordless-Electric-Snow-Blower-Headlight-w-Two-6-0-Ah-Batteries-Charger-Included-39924/316817667. Answer This Question

A:  Hi Albert! Thanks for your question. This model, #39901, is a battery-powered snow blower that uses our portable 60V MAX* 7.5 Ah battery. To charge the battery, simply plug the battery charger into any 120 V outlet, remove the battery pack from the snow blower, place the battery pack in the charger and charge it until the LED display indicates the battery pack is fully charged. You can view the instructions in the manual at https://images.thdstatic.com/catalog/pdfImages/f8/f8de3517-e49b-4149-a052-6cdb9661290f.pdf. Thanks!

        Battery Power has its Pluses
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The battery powered snowblower vs. the gas powered model is easier to use, quieter and much lighter. It does an excellent job of cleaning a hard surface, such as a driveway or sidewalk. One drawback is that it is not self propelled, or pulled by the paddles. It must be pushed.

        Great Snowblower
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Toro snowblower is a beast, it eats up snow, ice, and spits it out like crazy. My driveway is 80 feet long, but the Toro makes it easy to clear it off. Even snow that melted and froze over the Toro chews it up. Fresh snow is a breeze, while ice slows things down, if I go slow, the Toro will break it to bits. The battery life is very good, I've done my driveway, my sidewalk, my neighbor's sidewalks (on both sides), and the battery still has power for more.

        It definitely works!
2 feet of snow in central NH, the next storm that was coming the next day was to be wet and heavy. Found this one, charged it up, 2 hrs, and the wet heavy stuff was coming down. The following morning, tackled the front deck 10 x 24 back deck 12 x 24, Throws the snow but the wet, heavy stuff made it work. Wasn't effortless you do have to push it. but it did the job and on one charge! If you're giving it a one star review because it won't throw snow you must be pushing it from the wrong end!

          Poor product and customer support
After removing product from the box the instructions told me to fold handle out and to screw large thumbscrews through handle into threaded inserts in frame. The holes were about 1/4-3/8" off. No way the thumbscrew was going in. As I was looking over the rest of snowblower it had various fasteners that were poorly assembled. Tried to contact Toro support by email and they told me I needed to take it to an authorized service center. No, I boxed it up and returned it to store. Scratched Toro off the list of furture purchases. Paid a premium price for a name brand for assured quality. That wasn't the case.

          POOR ASSEMBLY QUALITY
Poor assembly standards! The unit was removed from the box and a rattle could be heard coming from the unit when it was moved. I discovered 2 screws in the bottom of the battery tray that were not installed. The screws should have been installed in the plastic housing around the battery compartment. Now I'm wondering what else wasn't installed??

            Toro Quality!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Replaced my ancient 2-cycle snowblower with this Toro battery powered model. Used it 3 times during the Ohio snowstorm in late December 2022. Performed great in the icy cold conditions.

Works OK, but beware of major build issue
BE AWARE OF THIS MAJOR ISSUE: There is some kind of manufacturing defect or assembly issue, where the cable harness from the unit up to the console is a little bit too short on some units. This will prevent the handle from being assembled and fastened into place, because the wiring harness will be stretched too tight! We discovered this when we got the unit home, and after returning to Home Depot, (3) more boxed units had the same issue. We had to take the floor unit which must have been assembled as part of a different batch, and had a longer wiring harness. As far as functional operation, it throws decently and doesn't bog down too much in wet snow, but the blade edge will catch on every single instance of broken pavement or uneven sidewalk and jam the push bar into your gut.

Works as advertised, battery life could be better
Purchased this unit just in time for an early major dump of snow in British Columbia. The snow blower was relatively straightforward to assemble and use, once the battery was fully charged. Following are some first impressions after using the unit for 2 days: * overall the unit works as advertised, does a great job throwing snow and is very light weight to push around due to its mostly plastic construction * the bottom snow scraper cleans right to the driveway surface * the plastic chute and control mechanism seems a bit flimsy * battery life while plowing through heavily drifted snow was about 25 minutes, in my case this wasn't enough time to fully clear my driveway * battery charge time from fully depleted state seems to take about 3-4 hours * ironically, the battery won't charge if it's cold (i.e. after a full use outdoors), so it needs to warm up indoors before charging can begin * the 7.5 aH batteries are currently out of stock in store and online, only the 6 aH versions are available * the handle does not fold away easily for storage In summary, I'm generally pleased with the unit based on my limited use so far. I've knocked back 1 star due to the battery charging issue and short run time, but otherwise it's working well for our needs.

Works great for light and medium snow depths
I used the Toro battery-powered snow blower all the 2021-2022 winter here in Buffalo NY. It does really well with snow up to 7 inches or so in depth. Beyond that, or with the heavy snowplow pile at the end of my driveway, I sometimes had to make two passes. For the first pass I push down on the handle to raise the front of the snow blower, leaving a few inches of snow on the ground. The second pass then removed the remaining snow. This approach worked out well, even if it was more work than using my gas powered snowblower. I appreciate the quietness, light weight, great lighting, ease of maintenance, relatively small footprint for storage and that no gasoline or oil is needed! For 90% of the snow clearing that I had to do this winter, this machine worked very well, and is worth the compromise for the remaining 10% of the times when a bigger machine would have been more ideal. Definitely is a good value.

                Battery life & use
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great snowblower, I’m very happy with it. It’s perfect for the light snowfalls 1-6”. I have a big U shape driveway and when the snow is on the lighter side I only use 1 bar on the battery, and when it’s around 6” I’ll use 3 bars. And that’s from plowing thru 12” of snow from the plow at the end of the driveway. The only con is that i wish the handle that directs the snow chute was longer , closer the the handle bar. The best thing is there’s no gas or oil to deal with and no smell! Don’t hesitate you won’t regret buying it!
