Questions & Answers

Can pull start be used without being plugged into power outlet?

Can pull start be used without being plugged into power outlet?
Asked by: Mobius
Yes, I bought the 721E but been using the pull start rope to see how easy it is to start. Push the primer button three times, set the choke, and pull rope. 95% of the time I only have to pull the rope once to get it started, push choke back in. Haven't had to use the electric start yet. Starts better than my lawnmower(4 to 6 pulls).

Is this a straight gas blower or does the engine require mixing with oil?

Asked by: Dadio56
I read that non-oxygenated fuel in any engine not operated on a regular basis is recommended to reduced potential for moisture contamination in the fuel and the resultant phase separation and corrosion issues. Is non-oxygenated fuel recommended for this engine?

Does this snow blower have a separate engine oil filter?

Asked by: IanW
No oil filter. If you want, change the oil(20 ounces) once a year. It all depends upon how much you use it during the winter. If you only use it 3 or 4 times a year, then change it every two years. I use Mobil 1 synthetic 5w-30 in mine.

Power Clear 721 E 21 in. Single-Stage Gas Snow Blower is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 910.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Toro 721 Rocks! (So Far) Owned a true 2 stage and was very cumbersome to move and get out of garage. Was afraid this Toro 721E would not be adequate. Easy assembly. I am a small guy but was able to LIFT this out of box!! Pulls itself up my slight incline driveway. Clears to ground on garage pad. Easy to manoeuver. Easy to store, very compact. Has electric start but starts on first or second pull. Have not used electric start. Could have saved some money by skipping electric start model. Snow plow left 1 1/2 foot drift today. Was able to clear it in less than 20 minutes. Only wish it had remote chute control (Model 721 QR has it but local Home Depot did not carry it special order only and another $200). Inconvenient but not a deal breaker. With remote chute control would have rated it 5 star. Saved me about 2 hours work today and did not even break a sweat! Love it! Time will tell how reliable this is. It is rated very highly. Ear protection maybe a good idea because of the noise.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Was AWESOME during BLIZZARD of 2016! We live in Baltimore and were ground zero for the biggest snowstorm in several decades (Jonas)- we got 30+ inches! By shear luck, I purchased this snowblower the week before. This truly saved us. It plowed through 18+ inches at a time. Anything more than that, you had to push and rock it back and forth- but come on- that's awesome! We gave it to the other FOUR houses in our cul de sac (our neighbors are very grateful). It really worked well, and didn't use that much gas (hence why we could let our neighbors all use it- and we only used about 2-3 gallons of gas in total and that sucker moved ALOT of SNOW- it was working nonstop for hours). The only issue we had was if it ran out of gas, we had to wait for 10-15 mins for it to start again, but that was probably user error- this was our first time using it and weren't that familiar with the protocol. I could easily start it myself (I'm a small 120 lb female), and pushing it was easy- kind of fun in fact! THANK YOU TORO FOR SAVING US FROM 2-3 FEET OF SNOW!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This thing is a beast. I had a Toro CCR 16" Snow Blower for 18 years. Recently, the pull cord would no longer go back in. With a bad snow storm coming in just a day, I didn't have time to take it in to get fixed. I had been wanting a larger machine for a number of years, so I decided now was the time to move up. We generally don't get too many large snow storms in our area (Detroit, MI), so I didn't need some massive machine with a metal auger, but needed something that would handle the bigger storms, like the one that was about to hit us, and the usually 1 - 3 inches we typically get. I have had a number of Toro products over the years and have always found them to be reliable, so I knew I wanted another Toro machine. After my experience with the pull cord, I decided I also wanted to make sure I got an electric start. I decided to go with the 721E. I am so glad I did. It was the perfect machine for me. It's big enough to handle the heavy stuff, but small enough to not be overkill. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Consumer's Was Right Again I have to admit that I have yet to use this snow blower myself, but I have watched my husband through the window as he's used it at length during our record winter here in Boston. He wanted a two-stage snow blower, but I snatched this one up the morning before our first big blizzard based on the CR review. It is significantly smaller than the neighbor's machines, but the weight to power ratio means it has had no problem cutting through the piles of snow and spitting it out well clear of the drive. The 21" width makes it possible to clear between the edge of the driveway (a curb) and the cars. As claimed, it clears down to the pavement, which the neighbor's two-stage machines do not. This is far far lighter than the two-stage machines, so you don't have to be a hulk to maneuver it. Hopefully, the fact that I neglected to change the oil after the first 2 hours of use (it's probably been 10) won't kill the engine! I don't think this model would make sense for someone with a large, suburban driveway to clear because the width would require many passes to do the job. Otherwise, this model is fantastic.

Put oil and gas in and fired it up. Electric start was good and I also used the pull cord to start it manually. Started on 3rd pull. Didn't have to pull my arm out of its socket. I had a 2-stroke Toro snow blower and was quite happy with it. Unfortunately, these are no longer in production. Looking forward to the coming winter in order to use it.

The box was received with several layers of repackaging and missing 2 clutch parts(clutch spring and a clutch cover). Home Depot's Customer service forwarded me to Toro's customer service. After requesting the items, Toro made 2 attempts to get the missing parts to me. Attempt 1, I received a Toro logo. I called again, Toro sent me the Clutch Spring but not the clutch spring cover.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very wise purchase done in the nick of time! First of all,a vote of thanks goes to Home Depot for outstanding customer service. The order was placed late on Wednesday evening and the item was sitting at my back door 8:00 AM Friday morning. I would have to say that this order was an overnight with no charges for shipping . Being that this snowblower weighs approximately 100 lbs, it took two UPS crew members to handle this order. Home depot would have been justified in charging some kind of shipping charges which they did not. Again, thank you. Home Depot. As for the snowblower, it handled the ice+snow mixture which was quite heavy with ease.My walk +driveway looks like a summer day. The unit does clean right down to the payment. The only problem that I had was getting the new unit started. I took eight tries. The chock had to be pushed back in 3/4 to a 1/2before the unit kicked in. Afterwords, it ran and cleared the snow like a dream. I'm 76 years of age and am no longer able to shovel without asking for trouble.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just In Time! Purchased the 721 E just in time for the early (11.10.14) snow storm we're having in MN. Although the early snow fall was slushy, and moisture laden, the machine barreled through with ease, blowing out the heavy slush without hesitation. Being a smaller person, the blower is easy to maneuver and the self propelled auger is great. I no longer have to push the machine but rather guide it! This blower replaced a Craftsman that died last year and there is no comparison. Many great features!
