Answer This Question
A: Hi, there! Thanks for your question. The auger, chute, and body material are plastic. If you’re looking for rubber protection, we would recommend checking our Power Clear® snowblower line that comes equipped with curved rubber paddles and housing of Power Curve® Technology. A similar Power Clear unit, 38472 can be viewed online at: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Toro-Power-Clear-518-ZR-18-in-99cc-Single-Stage-Gas-Snow-Blower-38472/205380014. Thanks!

Well made entry level blower
After watching my neighbor clear his driveway in half an hour with his antique all metal Toro while I shoveled I bought one five years ago and have had no problems at all. While I would love to get a cordless EGO and lose the 75’ cord those cost about $800 while my Toro is paid for. And $800 is a lot of money these days if you are retired.
Get a good pair of gloves and a heavy duty extension cord and put down the shovel. Your back and heart will thank you.

On my 3rd winter with this beauty and it works wonderfully! I do wish width was larger than 18 in. Up until now I had been just using it on the deck and sidewalks, but today was the true test of this little 25 lb. blower. My bf's big gas one wouldn't blow snow. Perhaps a bad belt. And we used this to clear a 100 ft. plus driveway with 5 1/2 in. of fresh snow!!

Failed after 20 hours of total use
Positive - strong belts and gears
Negative - The machine failed after less than 20 hours of total use due to a motor with built in deficiencies. The most vulnerable part of this type of motor is in the transfer of current to the armature via brush holders, brushes, and the commutator. If sparking is present between the brushes and the commutator, then the latter will overheat and fail. In this motor, the brush holder is mounted on thin plastic around a 1.5 mm thickness, which is prone to vibrations, which will promote sparking. The brush holder itself is made out of a thin copper sheet which does not add to its stability. The spring pushing on the brush against the commutator is very weak, which again promotes sparking. The commutator is made out of 1.5 mm thick copper mounted on insulation - CHEAPLY MADE.
The warranty on this product is 2 years, and after 2 winter seasons, the commutator on this snow blower exploded and I was 2 months past warranty. Toro was contacted and told me I was out of luck. The replacement motor is not available either, apparently. I strongly recommend not to buy this product.

I purchased this 18 in. Power Curve Snow Blower a couple of months ago and, so far, have found it to perform as advertised, and well worth the price. It was easy to assemble (5-10 minutes) and is light enough to carry around the house to the back deck. I found the adjustable shoot to be a little sticky when moving it back and forth, which is my only reason for the 4-star rating instead of 5. (I'm thinking, however, that a shot of dry graphite might alleviate the problem). This blower is certainly not for heavy snow, but it works great whenever I need to clear 2"-4" of light snow off the sidewalk and deck. The power cord gets in the way at times, but it sure beats shoveling! I'm pleased with this machine and feel that it was an overall good purchase.

Nice Little Snow Blower
Had my first opportunity to use the blower yesterday. It met my expectations and more. Really blew the snow a long ways. I bought an electric blower so I wouldn't have another gasoline engine to keep running, especially one that may only be used a couple of times in a year. It came assembled except for the handle. I can pick it up with one hand, so it should be easy to store on a top shelf out of the way.

Handy in a storm
I prefer electric appliances because they are always ready to go, need no maintenance and pollute less. In the recent storm I was up and running while our neighbor's gas powered blower was out of service. The Toro handles moderate size storms with ease. I can't tell you the exact break point but it cuts through 6-10 inches with ease. When the snow gets near the top end of the range you may have to hit the bank twice to clear the snow. In this service your biceps will be tired after plowing and uphill is definitely more work (but far better than shoveling). When the banks get much higher you will have to use a shovel to knock them down and then the Toro will throw them out of the way.

Life Saver
Two women, full time jobs, involved in the community and more. Then we have SNOW! Who has the time or energy to work hard shoveling...we don't! So we decided to by a snow blower this year and this product was well worth it. Instead of having to take shift and take an entire hour out of our morning, I can get the sidewalk and driveway done in 15 minutes. It is very lightweight, able to handle a lot of snow and gets the job done quickly. I love this snow blower and would recommend it to others.
