28" Power Max , is no joke you need this machine!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've owned 4 other types of snowblowers and nothing compares to the Power Max! You get instant gratification from using this machine. Bright headlight, heated hand grips, anti-clog chute, smart system that will allow the unit to shut down if you happen to pick up something large in the front. You can't ask for a better machine. Oh by the way, and throwing the snow 40' to 50'. Hands down the best!

great machine
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] nice machine, powerful enough to get thru the slush. My only negative is that I am always pulling up on the handles to keep it on the ground.

power max commercial snow blower
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The blower is as advertised, I had a chance to use it on wet and light powder snow, it is impressive how far it throws it. The reason for 4 star rating was an assembly issue,1 of the the power steering cables was not connected because paint had partially block the hole in the mounting bracket, production issues seem prominent problem in most industries.

Moved into a new house with a huge driveway and inherited an old Honda HS80 that was a very capable machine, but got bogged down in any wet snow, which here in Newfoundland can be frequent. My thinking was, the very time I most need a snowblower (wet, HEAVY snow) it's completely useless to me to the point it's easier/faster to just shovel than use it? So I was specifically looking at this for the anti-clogging feature and raw power. I was fortunate enough to receive this a day before what turned out to be the worst snowstorm of the season this year, in terms of the multiple challenges it presented. I have a gravel driveway, half of it with a 20 degree grade to it. The ground had thawed and had no frozen layer over it. This storm brought nearly 2 feet of wet heavy snow on top of that. I was skeptical this wouldn't get clogged. However, it blasted through it with ease. Impressive! So the huge price tag was justified after all! Until I began the turn-around at the bottom of the driveway, the tires had hardly any traction at all, I had to nearly throw my body horizontal with my arms and legs extended just to try to inch it forward. I did eventually get the driveway done but those tires had realized one of my fears that had had me looking at the ariens tracked model.. the the tires would be garbage on the steep part of my driveway. I'm still rating this a 5 however, because this isn't really designed for inclines like that, and that's no fault of the machine, I am going to shell out the $200+ to get chains and hope they make a difference, even with the struggle up the incline though, the power to push through the deep wet heavy stuff makes me confident in recommending this machine, when you need it most it will actually do what it was intended to do, which is throw any kind of snow VERY VERY impressively far.

    Great Snow-thrower
Only used one time so far, was abt 12-16 inches of medium/heavy weight snow. Starts easy, runs great, and throws really well. I thought the trigger turn system would be best for back problem, so I could control and anticipate when it turns. That worked out fine. It did shoot out 1 very fine stream of snow straight up from left side seam between first and second stage housing for first few minutes, so a non-issue. Completely satisfied and giant upgrade from my 20 year old Toro 824, which has never needed repair and continues to work well, giving that one to daughter for her first house.

    Great Product
Just received and hoping to get a chance to use before spring. I was surprised that at this price point since being an electric start snow blower that the electrical cord would be included- but no it is not included according to Toro. So don’t waste time looking for the electrical cord or for any manuals, the manuals are on online. I will post about its performance after I use it.

More of a bust than a beast !
After reading many excellent reviews, I decided to purchase this Toro snow blower. Unfortunately, my experience has not been good. I've had the blower since January 4th. The LED light flickered from the very first, the chute would not remain in place where it was set, and today the auger cable snapped off after about 2 metres of use. None of these items are apparently covered by any warranty. Even if the machine is about 6 weeks old, with about 10 hours of use on it. Not sure if buying the blower at a Toro dealer would have helped with these repairs or not. Not very pleased with this particular Home Depot purchase for sure. The only positive that I can say is that the Toro blower did arrive in quick order. Only 3 days from order date.

      Great machine
I have had both deep and wet snow falls and so far the Power Max HD 1428 has handled it all effortlessly and I'm yet to experience a plugged chute. The 420 cc Toro has proved that there is no replacement for displacement I have a large driveway and it makes short work of it and wet or dry it throws snow an incredible distance. I am very pleased with it and would without hesitation recommend it to anyone that has a large area to clear.

Toro, has a long history of moving snow.
Works well in all snow conditions, in the heavy wet snow it’s easy to clean out when you’re done because it’s so open, unlike the three stage. Also reverse gears are not too slow and the LED light is in the right place and bright.

      Power Max® HD 1428 OHXE Commercial (38843)
Used once so far in two and a half feet of light snow. No problems moving the snow where I wanted it. The auger and drive controls require a lot more force to engage. The drift breakers could do with some refinement, perhaps something more like what’s on the Ariens. You move the rods and the blower is likely to get scratched. Chute control will take some getting use to but does well. I like being able to not throw so far. A bit more side to side swing of the chute would be nice. The engine is easy to pull/start, looks pretty beefy, why a plastic choke control (?). All things considered it’s a nice machine.
