Is this model electric start

Is this model electric start

Yes this model has electric start.

Is the headlight on this model LED

Asked by: joeyd
Not directly answering your question, but reading into it...LED may not be better than halogen or other bulbs in this application. Halogen bulbs get hot and the heat would help reduce buildup of ice and snow over the lens. LED does not get hot and so, in this application, may not be a good choice.

Power Steering

Can the power steering be shut off? My driveway isn't smooth and I don't want to be fighting trying to keep it going straight.
Asked by: Sugarworks
As long as you don't engage the power steering, you will remain on a straight course.

Power Max HD 928 OHXE 28 in. 265cc Two-Stage Gas Snow Blower is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 68.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good unit BUT Bought this unit in November online because there were none in the local store. I am not mechanically inclined and it took me 1 hour 17 minutes to assemble. The unit ran great. Everything worked great (heated grips heated up, Light came on, Tines and impellers turned, etc). Can't wait for snow to see it really work. Cons: For this price a printed owners manual should be included. This unit is NOT "battery" electric start. This unit must be plugged into the house to use electric start. (very disappointed with the misleading advertisement.). My Toro lawn mower is electric start (it has a battery). If (like me) you are looking for a true "ELECTRIC START" unit, I do not recommend this unit.

It starts easily and clears snow pretty well. The issues I have is the the grip warmers are barely noticeable and do not keep hands & fingers warm in weather below 20-25 F. Also, the auger lock which enables you to keep blowing snow while moving along so you can adjust the discharge chute didn't work work when I bought it from the dealer. A service guy made a quick adjustment before loading it into the trailer but then it stopped working within days. I have tried to adjust the cable & the cam-spread, lube the bits indicated in the manual & in online forums but it still doesn't stay locked when the drive handle is down. This shouldn't be such a PITA to get right.

When it was delivered I noticed a large amount of oil leaking out of the box. I tried for almost 3 weeks to return it and get a new one. It finally got picked up but I decided to purchase another brand from a different retailer. Once again, I'm sure the product is fine if there wasn't a quart of oil coating the entire thing but I am very disapointed with the particular one I received and the length of time it sat in my garage while 8" of snow got dumped on my driveway.

Both are great snow blowers and are highly rated. Was looking for a made in USA snow blower too and both brands met this requirement. I decided on the Toro Power Max HD 928 because of a couple things: I liked the Toro steering system better than the Ariens' autosteer system. The Ariens' autosteer system seems finicky and per some of the Ariens' users, it can be tough to control. Toro uses a simpler left and right level system on the handles and it worked well during my test. I also like the Toro's chute control as it is very easy to use with one hand. My local HD store does not stock the larger Toro models so I ordered the 928 online. No issues - it took about 7 days to arrive via Estes Trucking. The driver had a tailgate lift and pallet jack on his truck. He put the box in my garage - nice! The box arrived in great condition with no damage. Assembly took about an hour which including unpacking and reading the instruction book. The assembly really just consists of installing the top handle and control panel section. Was easy to do - just using basic tools like a 7/16 and 1/2 socket. There are a couple small clips that need to be installed when putting on the drive selector rod but was straight forward. I also bought both the Toro non-marking skid and drift kits. The skids are made from heavy duty plastic and replace the factory steel skids. The plastic skids will not mark up the driveway. The plastic skids were easy to install and the kit came with all the hardware. The drift cutter kit consists of a couple upright supports and a cross-bar. Installation requires drilling 2 each 5/16" holes on each side of the bucket. A template is included in the kit. Very easy to install and the drift cutter is very sturdy. It also has a nice black power coating finish that should hold up over time. After assembling, I checked the engine oil and added a little bit of gasoline to the fuel tank. The oil is factory filled and was right at the correct full line. Starting the engine is very easy - couple pumps on the primer, set the choke and throttle controls and gently pull the starter rope. The engine started right up and ran smoothly. No issues. The engine does have an electric starter and I have not tried it as the engine is easy to start with the pull handle. The 928 also has a light mounted on the handle and it is on when the engine is running - no on/off switch. It uses a standard GE 899 halogen bulb which is also used for car fog lights. It is a 38 watt bulb so it is pretty bright. The 928 has electric hand warmer grips on the handle. There is an on/off switch for the grip heaters and they work well. After a couple minutes, they were warm enough to be comfortable. Be nice to use them when it is cold and snowing as my fingers can't take the cold anymore. Overall, the 928 is a great snow blower and I am very happy with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A beast Bought this machine in early November from a local dealer. They were great best way to buy and price was the same as online but I didn't have to assemble it. I have used it twice once in two inches of slush and once in three inches of snow. It cleared approximately 100 feet of driveway, five car parking area and 50 feet of walkway in less than an hour. Also helped a couple of neighbors with walkway and parking space. Best snowblower I've ever owned. Started easy one pull and heated grips were great. Gonna love this machine.

On December 1, 2017 their tracking website said "The consignee will be called no later than end of day on November 28, 2017 to arrange delivery". I called them and they did not know where the unit was or when it will be delivered. If (like me) you are looking for a true "ELECTRIC START" unit, I do not recommend this unit.

Whats the point in buying from Home Depot if they cannot deliver and pick up this item from home when it runs into fault in first 30 days. Local dealer has that option. Have problems with Chute since day 1 including its lock-in mechanism.
