Hi Toro, About 40 minutes, give or take - but as the battery ages, that runtime will decrease. Please consider having a 2nd battery as a spare. Good luck!

Is the bag on this mower larger than the bag on the 21” mower?

Asked by Bobby May 2, 2021

The bag volume is 1.8 bushels, but the improved vortex cutting system allows the clippings to be packed in more densely. Thank you.

Does this have the same bagging issues as the other Toro Recycler models all have?

Answers

This mower has our new Super Bagger, shaped for easier lifting, no-shake pouring and zero-hassle cleanup. To bag the grass, be sure the bag-on-demand lever is in the bagging position and that the grass bag is properly attached. 1. Raise and hold up the rear deflector. 2. Install the grass bag, ensuring that the pins on the bag rest in the notches on the handle. 3. Lower the rear deflector. View the Installing the Grass Bag section of the Operator Manual for details and illustrations at https://www.toro.com/getpub/194428.

How do you run a three phase motor off of a battery?

Asked by Speed April 30, 2021

Answers

It has apparently a Brushless DC drive. The three phases of the 3 phase motor are connected to a totem pole configuration. There are 3 pairs of two MOSFETS in series running from a 60V buss to ground. These two MOSFETS can never be turned on at the same time or the result would be a direct short from 60V positive to ground and the MOSFETS would blow. The motor leads are attached between the two MOSFETS. If you turn on the TOP MOSFET you get 60V positive. If you turn that off and turn on the bottom MOSFET you connect at motor tap to ground. By turning the MOSFETS on and off really fast at a given PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) you develop a average voltage in the motor windings. The most efficient MOSFETS to use are Type N and do drive these hard full on you should power the GATE with a voltage that is higher then your battery. So they will probably have high side high current gate driver to turn on that MOSFET. They also will probably only control the lower side MOSFET for PWM will leaving the top side fully on. This is how you develop the 3 phases for each leg of the 3 phase brushless DC motor. This controller also must use a current feedback on one or all of the motors leads. This will sense the load of the motor which they suggest they throttle up and down based on load. If it is a really nicely design controller it will use back EMF generated on motor legs to read the 3 legs current and try and vector the magnetic fields to run the motor as efficiently as possiable and also give it the highest amount of usable torque per amp as possiable. This form of control is called Sensorless FOC Field Oriented Control.

I think it is too hard to determine because of a global economy. Engines, body and parts may all be made in different countries. TORO does make a lot in the USA.

I want to love it BUT it doesn’t cut
It just doesn’t cut/mulch the grass well. For all its claims about recycling, mulching & “lawn vitamins” it leaves the yard messy with lines of the cut grass laying along the outside edges of the deck. It’s a shame I have to use a blower on the yard after mowing. I have the wheels set at middle position and am cutting 1.5” off. BUT it is very well built, feels solid in your hands, uses quality components, runs great, is easy to use and has a great motor. I think it’s the blade design that is the fatal flaw. If it would just cut the grass I would give it 5 stars. Come on Toro; give me a deal on a blade that actually works! OK?

I love this Toro Lawnmower, I just wish it would have came with the 7.5 Ah battery, as it would last to cut my entire yard. All of the battery operated Lawnmowers should come with the 7.5 Ah battery. But overall I'm very pleased and impressed with the Mower. I would definitely recommend it.

This is my third Toro lawn mower. My first two were Toro gas Super Recycler's (model 20382) with the Personal Pace (which I love). Each mower lasts me about 10 years and this time I decided to try electric. My lawn is of medium size and it usually took me about 45 minutes to cut my lawn. I purchased the Toro Model 20363 with the 60 Volt 6 Ah battery and charger. The amazing part is how light it is. There is no effort to push it even in thick grass and simple to turn 90 or 180 degree turns because it is so light (this is a real time saver). The electric motor actually speeds up and slows down automatically depending on the grass thickness. All that added up to knocking off almost 15 minutes to cut the lawn. The battery has just enough charge to finish my entire lawn, and it only tales 3 hours to fully re-charge the battery. The big wheels in the back help a lot and the new recycling blade works great (even in wet grass). I think the steel deck will be even better than my previous mower which was aluminum and they even put in a drain hole so water doesn't sit on top of the mower. The only problem I have run into was the springs for the battery cover popped off because the lid would not open. I kept both springs off and I like it better because it does not snap shut. I have used the mower four times and had the same happy experience each time. I am anxious to see how many years the battery last.

Excellent Expectations Met
This Mower using essentially the same lower identical platform as the proven Gasoline model with the Personal Pace feature has met my expectations after having purchased & tested most everyone of its Competitors sold at the Big Box Stores. I have around 7,000 sq, ft. to mow and it mows it on one 6.0 AH fully charged battery. How long the Battery retins its length of longevity i have no idea, but hopefully more then one season. Overall the ability to manuever the mower around tight areas forward & backwards is where it shines compared to all the other brands. Highly suggest trying this one out first as i learned through a lot of testing competitor brands this Toro tops my list & personal needs.

I purchased this to replace my 31 year old John Deere 14SB mower. I've had a Toro before and liked it so wanted to try one again. Decided to go with the battery operated one for a few reasons. I like that I can turn it on its side or back to hose it out, without fear of gas or oil leaking out somewhere it shouldn't. It's easier to hose it down rather than the washout port (have to move it to concrete, lower all the wheels, run the water and mower, then clean of the concrete... what a chore!) I like no more gasoline, spark plugs, oil and air filter changes. Toro says it should cut a quarter to a third of an acre on a full charge... I have just under a quarter acre of lawn and sometimes I finish, sometimes I don't. But I can throw the battery on the charger for 20-30 minutes while I blow the driveway and walks and I get enough charge to finish the last 5-10 minutes. I have a bumpy yard in places and this Toro is lots lighter than the John Deere so it bounces around some. The personal pace takes some getting used to, but it works. I borrowed a neighbor's a few years ago so I knew what I was getting into. I'd like to be able to push the mower without the self-propel more easily, holding the bail down with one hand and pushing with the other is cumbersome. There ought to be a way to clamp down he bail, but I know that defeats the safety of stopping the motor when you let go. I'm a little worried about wall mounting the charger. It's kind of heavy with the battery inserted and the plastic mounting holes seem a little lacking, we'll see. It would be nice if the charger worked quicker... 2.5 hours to a full charge is a lot. If I get really annoyed at having to recharge to finish, can always get the hedge trimmer with the 2.5 AH battery. It's only $30 more than the battery itself! Yeah the wheel hubs are plastic with no bearings, but this is a light machine so I don't think it will be a problem. Heck I had to replace my John Deere wheels every few years because they wore smooth so quickly, I think the Toro will do lots better. All in all for this price I think the larger 7.5 AH battery should be included so there is no question of finishing the job. But that Toro model is way more expensive (and not readily available) for simply 1.5 AH more battery. Perhaps Toro should consider some others' model (E*o) and include two smaller batteries, say two of the 4.0 AH ones? Then at least when one goes out you can charge it while using the 2nd one, and it might charge up enough if needed to finish if the 2nd one empties? It doesn't have to have two battery ports in the mower, it's no problem to swap it out.

Uneven Cuts
I chose an electric lawn mower as it is good for the environment and was tired of gas and jerking a pull cord. I chose the Toro for the name and the solid steel base instead of plastic. I love that I can just push a button and go. I love how it stores compactly. I am not in love with the cut. It leaves tall blades of grass behind -- seems to be missing cut in the center. It also does not mulch well -- I have 1-2 inch blades of grass when this mower is toted as mulching into small bits. Never see small bits. I though I would wait a bit and use it for a few months thinking it would improve into the cutting season. Well.... it's now July and I continue to have the same disappointments with the quality of the cut.

Works great, a lighter feel than the old Toro mower. Seems to cut with less clippings in the bag. Battery holds just enough charge for my lawn. Must be recharged after each use. Folds up nice for easy storage.

24 Minutes of Run Time
Really wanted a battery lawn mower to do the job. No gas smell in the garage and nothing leaking anywhere was enough of a dream to make me try this machine. Cuts great and is easy to use but my tiny 1/5 acer yard is too much for it. To make it worse my neighbor cut his and went inside while I'm stuck waiting for the battery to recharge enough to finish my back yard. Very disappointed.

An effortless purchase over the HD Website and delivered to my doorstep in just a few days. The lawnmower was in perfect condition when removed from its shipping boxes. Easy assembly where needed and when the battery was fully charged, the lawnmower ran flawlessly. This mower is based on its original engine driven platform and has several updates in design, making it a 5-star winner, Thank you Toro. P.S. - I still have my original 18 year-old mower and it looks and runs very well after all these years.
