New Sheriff in Town
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Moved into a new house a few months ago with a fair amount of yard to mow in the front and back. I thought I could make do with a battery-powered mower from the most highly rated brands out there. I was wrong. It would take me close to 3 hours to mow my lawn, swapping out batteries sometimes as many as 4 times during my session. I was pushed to the brink. I knew a typical 21" deck was not going to get the job done. Toro has the market cornered when it comes to mowers and the TimeMaster is the King of residential push mowers. I opted for the electric start model and I am glad I did. Impressive machine, cuts through all types of grass no problem, strong transmission, clean cut, no random strays sticking out. It's only been 2 months, and I can say I've never experienced a machine like this. I can get through my lawn now in about an hour, and I also opted for the striping kit, which leaves behind some amazing looking stripes! It feels good knowing I have the best looking lawn on the block thanks to this machine and a proper lawn service program. My only wishlist item would be for a slightly bigger gas tank to handle a larger lawn, but that's not a big deal. This is not an inexpensive purchase, but if you are someone who values and takes pride in how your lawn looks, I can at least vouch for it and tell you it puts a smile on my face every time I stand back and admire my lawn after each cut.

My personnel experience
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am unable to mow my yard with a lawn tractor due to a large culvert and a zero turn was too large for the size of my yard. I have a 14,000 sq ft. lot. So I needed something larger then the 22 inch recycler I was currently using. I will list the issues and the pluses of this machine Dislikes 1. When trying to mow in the highest setting for the push bar, it will slip and drop into the lowest mowing position, I looked and could not see why it was doing this. 2. When taking the spark plug out the tip broke and I work on motorcycles, so I know how to remove a spark plug. Champion spark plug defect. 3. When sending oil make sure you send the amount needed, Toro only includes 18 ounces of oil and machine needs 20 ounces, so you will need to purchase a bottle of top off oil before operating the machine. Pluses 1. I was able to mow my 14,000 sq ft lot in around 30 minutes, my Toro 22 inch recycle on average around 45 minutes, factoring out the breaks needed. I am just learning how to use this mower so I feel I can get down to around 20 to 25 minutes. 2. Moves like a wild banchee when I pushed the bar forward all the way, the mower was popping wheelies. 3. I have read some reviews where they said the gas tank was to small, I never ran out of gas. 4. Overall I am glad I purchased this mower, I loved my 22 inch recycler and knew I would be buying a larger Toro push mower for my lawn. 5. Trying to mow with a smaller size push mower and having to take multiple breaks due to the heat and after 60 minutes I am finally finished, I knew I needed a larger area push mower, now I mow with no breaks and 30 minutes later I am done mowing.

    Timemaster electric start.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This thing is amazing!! I was mowing the lawn like a peasant with my 21” AWD Toro. I can’t believe I use to have to pull a piece of string for my old one to start. I turn the key on the Timemaster and it purrs like a Ferrari. I am now the king of my yard!!!!

    Another review.
I previously reviewed this mower as underpowered, and gets bogged down in any height of grass. The other day the blades stopped spinning after 10 uses. I took the front housing off, and saw the cable that pulls the pulley to the belt, was slack. I tightened, and it works like a dream. Highly suggest checking on this.

Tampa, FL. Replaced my 11yr old 22" craftsman self propelled mower with the electric start 30" toro timemaster. After two times mowing I'm very pleased. My mowing time is cut way down and this self propelled personal pace is effortless to use. No problem for me backing it up our mowing around trees or turns, weed eater mops up fine where I can't maneuver. It handles my thick long St Augustine grass without a problem. Bagging and mulching both are satisfactory and the cut is good. Electric start works fine. Seems well built, will see over time. You need a 34" or greater door or gate to get this machine through a fence, it barely fit between my pool and fence line but it made it, only one pass needed now. I gave 4 stars only due to the cost $$$ but for me it was worthwhile. I will update if needed but so far a good machine...

The mower was packaged perfectly and I received it with zero damage. I have only used it a few times so far because it's very early in the season but I have been completely satisfied by its performance and honestly it is exceeded what I had anticipated. Its ability to mulch and bag leaves has been excellent. I just can't wait to get it into some thick St Augustine grass this spring and watch it do its job! Very satisfied. PS: I also added the Puck for more accurate maintenance records and it too has recorded the use as advertised.

I've now used the mower 5 times this year. Before buying, I set up a calculation in excel that took the dimensions of my lawn (roughly 8900sqft - 50'x50' and 80'x80') and used the mower width, estimated time per pass and qty of passes required to meet the dimensions of my lawn to figure out how much time a 30 inch mower vs a 21 inch mower would save me. Ultimately a 21" mower would have taken me 75 passes and 49 minutes while the Time Master 30" put these at 52 passes and 34 minutes. I perform my last pass and the mower is just about empty of gas so the tank is a bit undersized I think. Deck wash actually works pretty well on this mower. Plenty of power. Can go very fast if you wanna hustle.

Long Review, You WANT This Lawn Mower
This is by far the biggest walk behind mower I have ever seen or had. My old mower was a commercial kind at 21 inches and I though that was big. This is a two blade, 30 inch mower! Given the cost for this mower, I will try to be as thorough as possible in my review. I hope others find it help in determining their purchase....but I will say this bias up front - you will WANT this mower!!! This will arrive at your door on a pallet. The box is well packaged so that it arrives in perfect condition. Once you remove the plastic covers and cardboard insets, all you have to do is lift the handle, lock it in place using the settings on the mower and you are pretty much ready to go -- with of course the oil that is included (it is SAE30 or 10w-30). It takes standard gas (87 or above). Also included in the packaging is a single Toro Fuel Treatment package. This is supposed to be used with brand new gas and give it a steadier engine hum. After reading the directions and a few of the pamphlets include you will see that maintenance is stressed for this lawn mower. The maintenance regimen for this machine is to fill it with oil for the first 5 hours of use. Then change the oil again and let it go for 50 hours or 1 year, whatever comes first. Additionally, after each year of use, you are to have the blade-drive system serviced, change the spark plug and clean the air-filter. The air filter will need to be replaced at 200 hours or service. As I will note below, you are also to wash the underside of the mower after each use. If you live in a region where you have to store your mower for the winter (not me), you are to remove all the gasoline and charge the key/battery. One caveat for storage, the mower is approximately 33 inches, give a quarter inch on the large side. So if you have a standard garage door, like I do, it will NOT fit. Thankfully, I store this in a storage shed on a cement slab in the back yard. But if you are a person who stores their mower in the garage, it may be difficult (that is where I had my old mower). When stored, you also have the ability to compact the handles so that it does not clutter your space. There are two ways to start the engine. You can do it with the traditional pull/crank method or the electric key starter. I like using both. But it is nice to know that if your pull cord should ever snap, you can still start it with a key. It takes about a 24 hour charge to get the battery unit charged enough to use the key. The direction booklet says it is good for 25 start-ups. I have used both the crank and the key stater. The crank is as equally simple. Slightly pull to have tension on the cord. Then, complete the pull and it will instantly kick over and start. The key itself if used to turn off the mower, can be used with the pull cord, and can be used to start the mower. It has those three settings. The only thing I would suggest doing is to use two zip ties for the key that is included. I have one loose zip tie attached to the handle. I have another one attached to the key and to the handle tie. So it essentially acts like two rings. This will ensure that the key will always be near the slot for it...and you won't lose it. The mower is a bit on the loud side. Not ear decibel breaking, but it is noisy. I think if you use music headphones that can block out noise would be a good thing to have. For me, thankfully, it only takes about 30 minutes (approx) to mow the front and back yard. But if you have a larger property, that may help. It says on its specifications sheet that it is good for lawns up to 1 acre. Additionally, try to only mow when the grass is completely dry. It will clump with dew or moist grass (trust me, I have done this. It cuts great, but clumps and clogs). For me, this is a bit annoying. It means during the spring, I can only mow the lawn in the afternoon. For the summer and fall it should not be an issue and I can probably mow after 10am. But for the winter (and early spring), a morning mow is definitely out given the moisture level in the grass. The blades are so sharp and the wind thrust of the undercarriage are so much so that it just collects in the underbelly of the lawn mower. Thankfully though, there is a water nipple on the outside of the lawn mower. I have never had this before on any of my previous machines. You hook up a nozzle to your garden hose and snap it on to the nipple and it sprays the undercarriage. You can set the blades in motion and it washes it to about 90% cleanliness. You may have to run the cleaning process twice or wipe some of it down by hand when the machine is off and become cold to the touch. The direction booklet says that you should clean the underside after every mow! This is a bit of a chore and nuisance, but it does save your machine! Something I find interesting and incredibly helpful is that the machine is weighted to the handle. I can be standing behind the mower and push the handle to the ground. This will lift the mower up in the front. You will want to obviously do this when the lawn mower is off. But the impressive part is it is weighted. The mower won't slam to the ground if you let go. It will stay in that position and if you feel like it is about to come crashing down, you can just hold it with your hand using NO strength - it wills stay tipped! Now for the good stuff. This mower is awesome. The blade can be adjusted from 2-4 inches using a lever on both the front and back wheel. No more pins, bolts and bars! I am taller and what I also like is that you can adjust the handle bar settings to your height. If you are shorter, you can lower the bar more than the standard setting so that when you walk behind it, the handles are not at your chin, but instead at your waist. I also like that you can start the mower and when you have to stop to dump a bag of grass, the engine does not shut off (very old school, but with safety features)! It just stays on with the blade disengaged. The blades are put into action with a bar that you hold on to with both of your hands. This is also necessary to engage the self driving wheels. The self propelled wheels are genius. You no longer put your mower in gear and then fly along the grass to the pace of the wheels. Instead, the wheels are tension based and in concert with the handle. So as fast or slow as you walk behind the mower will be the speed of the mower! The only draw back is when you are mowing a circle around a tree or need to make a tight turn. It can be a little heavy. You will find out when you back it up with no driving assistance. For me. other than make a circle around a tree, I can usually keep one hand on the blade while making the turn. And if it is a tight turn where I am not directly behind the mower, you can engage the drive bar with only a little bit of a push. It is hard to describe, but when you find yourself with your back up against a hedge or a wall, you will understand what I mean. Otherwise, if you do not have the drive/tension engaged, this mower is heavy! Also, while this does not apply to our yard, do not mow up and down a slope. The directions say you should drive on a stable plane. If you mow on a slope going up or down, you "may" lose control of the mower. I also like that there is a splash/sponge guard in the gas tank. So as long as you have a nozzle or good aim, you will never splash gas on the machine, or the ground. The bag in the back of the mower is pretty easy to use. It has a rubber plate that slides into the bottom to keep it weighted. The engine and blades are so good that you can see it fill with air when you engage the mower for cutting. Most of the time I empty the grass per section of lawn cut. But for testing it out, I did mow to capacity and it really did fill it all the way full...to the point of being packed. If you are cutting very thick or tall grass, you can put the mulcher on and have it shoot out the side. If you grass has been cut to a desired level (and dry) you can leave the side shoot closed too and just mow your lawn leaving a fine grass mulch on top. And with this being a 30 inch wide cut, I have cut down my mowing time by 33%. What used to take 45 minutes with a 21 inch blade, is done in just under 30 minutes. The 30 inch cut though can be a bit large, as if there were such a thing. When mowing near flower beds or tight pathways, you will want to use a weed eater or a smaller mower. This machine is just slightly too big for certain spaces. For my property, that only applies in two areas which are not that big. But I know for some, this may be an issue. The warranty for this mower is 3-Year full warranty, 3-Year guaranteed warranty to start from Toro. It comes with a detailed Toro direction book, a Briggs & Stratton engine manual, a warranty card to fill out, a gas safety pamphlet and a battery charger that hooks up to a standard electrical outlet. You also get an extra fuse for the battery. I saw that a safety and toxicology report and a booklet on how to order replacement parts is available online at Home Depots website. I have had this a little over a month and have mowed six times. Given the ease of use & start-up, storage, cutting time, tension-based driver and the bag capacity, I am starting to get addicted to mowing the lawn! It is just that good!

                  Pinto to Corvette
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The name is accurate: TimeMaster (saver) it is! I wish the self-propel performed better on hills.

                  big but underpowered
We purchased this machine to replace our battery powered mower which required multiple chargings to get through the whole lawn which is a little more than an acre. Surprisingly, this machine appears to be underpowered as it nearly stalls when engaging the blades and in thicker grass. It also does not hold enough fuel to get through the whole lawn, which is a fairly minor thing. Love the electric start and the self paced feature. Pulling it backwards however is tough, as it is quite heavy. The hose connection to wash under the mower is a nice tough, but does not really clean out under the machine adequately, even when running the blades at the same time.
