Can i attach a garden hose to the unit

Asked by Poodle May 5, 2021

Answers

Yes you can attach a garden hose to the unit. It does not matter how long the garden hose is. The Only Exception is that the hose must run down hill for it's an entire length. It cannot go uphill for a little bit and then go back down hill. Wherever the dehumidifier is the garden hose must go downhill for its entirety or it will not drain.

Why won’t water drain out of hose?

Asked by Flo April 12, 2021

Answers

Hi Flo. Thanks for asking about the Toshiba 50-Pint Dehumidifier TDDP5012ES2. For continuous drainage, install a drain connector (5/8” universal female mender) with a 3/4” dia. hose. To troubleshoot, make sure the hose stays lower than the drain point on the unit. Also, ensure that the bucket is properly seated and confirm that nothing blocks the drain hole on the back of the unit (or hose). Reach us at 800-842-1289 for additional help! Toshiba Customer Care. Does this have a pump to send the water out?

Asked by James February 21, 2021

Answers

Hello James. Thank you for your question about the Toshiba 50-Pint 115-Volt Dehumidifier TDDP5012ES2. The unit supports continuous draining but does not contain a pump in its assembly. To drain, remove the plastic cover from rear of unit & securely attach the unit to a 5/16-in. dia. water hose (not included) with a female-threaded end. Water can then be emptied into a floor drain or a suitable drainage facility. Always ensure a leak-free, kink-free, level (or downgrade) hose connection for water flow. Toshiba Customer Care. I still dont understand about setting the timer. I tried going thru the half hour and whole hour mode, even had it where both lights were on for off and on timer. It just ran for a half hour, then shut off. Never came back on when the half hour of 'off' mode was over. What a disaster! CAN you give me STEP BY STEP instruction for setting the following sequence in "continuous" mode to go as follows: ONE hour on, then TWO hours off, then ONE hour on, and TWO hours off, and keeping that pattern throughout, day after day. One hour on, two hours off, totalling 8 hours running each day, and 16 hours off. Does it turn off completely when in the "off" periods?

Bought 2. Got a bad one that was defective out of those 2. Got an exchange. We'll see how it goes.
I bought 2 units of this same model 3 weeks apart in my local store. The first unit has worked great since day 1. The second unit has had trouble since day 1. The box had some dent damage on it as did several others on the shelf indicating they were roughly handled in transit. However, I didn't have another option and I really liked the performance of the first model I purchased. I don't think it was necessarily a fault with the design of the unit as it was improperly handled before it was placed on the shelf. That's a good thing because I really like this dehumidifier. That's why I bought 2. It's not the cheapest, but I love the design and how it operates. I use these units to dehumidify a garden room. They are set to go on and off on a timer to operate when the lights are off. They are intelligently designed with a feature that automatically powers the unit on to it's previous setting in the event of a power outage. For me that means I can use a timer and the unit will power back on and actually operate. Another unit I purchased and had to return did not have this functionality, so I am very thankful this unit does. Also, the LED screen is a green. That's perfect because the illumination doesn't disrupt the plant's photo period. Another unit I had was blazing white that illuminated half the room. The unit pulls a lot of moisture out of the air. It fills the bucket almost to the top in 12 hours of operation. However, the 2nd unit I got that was defective only filled 1/4 of the bucket in 12 hours. That's how I knew there was an issue. Another day the water coming off the coils draining into the reservoir was very warm. That was unusual since the water is usually cold. I suspect the refrigerant may have leaked out. In summary it's a great unit. Even though I got one that was defective I love the functionality enough that I'm willing to try another. I believe the issue was related to poor handling of the item in transit. Not a quality or design flaw. It's a lovely unit and I would recommend it. If you have any issues just exchange it.

Like others have pointed out, the auto-defrost sensor simply doesn't work -- ICE BUILDUP WILL RUIN YOUR UNIT
After less than a month, this thing started icing up every time I turn it on. Now it will run for maybe an hour before completely icing over. I think the auto-defrost function is defective. I have contacted Toshiba's warranty department and received NO RESPONSE. Possibly related to the defrost failure, the unit will start collecting water in the bucket even when I have the hose attached. Works great otherwise, but piece of junk if you have to babysit it.

CRAP!!!
Purchased this on 4/3/20. Just today, I noted ice a few inches thick on the back. Looked in the manual, said "some ice on coils is normal." WHAT??? This is a mini iceberg. Obviously, I got a defective unit which the auto defrost doesn't work. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! WILL BE CONTACTING TOSHIBA TO GET A REPLACEMENT! RUN FROM THIS ONE! Cripes, can't ANYONE manufacture a good dehumidifier any more? This the THIRD brand I've had crap out on me since February 2019. First was a Whirlpool; second a G.E. Three times a charm with this one! DISGUSTED!!!

This is a work horse. Highly recommended.
I’m using this Toshiba dehumidifier since a month now. It is located in a 1000 sqft daylight finished basement. The humidity level may reach 75 in summer. This dehumidifier is extremely useful to lower the level below 50%. I like the red indicator in the front showing the water level in the bucket. There is also an attachment for a hose for continuing operation. I’ve been monitoring how much water this baby produces in few hours and it is a lot. So far I’m very happy. I also have a Danby Premiere dehumidifier that I was using for 3 years. Still running well but this Toshiba is more powerful in comparison. Only two remarks I want to do on the Toshiba. 1) the compressor is heating up noticeably resulting in hot air expelled, but is not necessarily a bad thing since the basement temperature in summer is below 70 F. 2) the humidity gauge in the panel is optimistic indicating 5% humidity less than the true room measurement. This is upon start, then it stabilizes especially below 50 where the difference is only 1% See pics. Overall great product. I’m very satisfied of the purchase.

Great Product, Great Price
Recently bought a home built in 1910 with a stone foundation. The gutters need work, so water collects right up against the foundation when it rains. Needless to say, my basement is incredibly damp. The first time I plugged in the unit, the unit display said the humidity was 79%. After 3-4 days of running it, the humidity is now sub-40% and the earthy smell that filled the first floor is gone. Great value on this machine. I will most likely buy a second one to put in the opposite end of the basement.

This dehumidifier is a powerhouse! I use it in my basement and it can pull 3 bins full of water out in 24 hours, more if I was able to check it more frequently. I can empty it in the morning, late afternoon, and bedtime on turbo mode. Settings are good, displays current humidity levels and shuts off when full. It does throw out a little heat when on turbo mode nonstop but I don't mind in the basement, especially because it is dry. It can take my 800 sq ft area from 75% to 45% in a few hours and keep it there. I feel comfortable buying dog food in bulk, and storing it and photos and extra linens in my dry basement now!

I recently had to replace our 15-year dehumidifier with a new one as it had just stopped working. After reading a bunch of reviews of various brands and models, I settled on this Toshiba one. Reading some of the negative reviews on the HD web site, they indicated that the unit did not work or after running for 24 hours, it had not collected any water, etc. My experience with this unit was completely the opposite. I followed the manufacturer instructions which was to run the unit on "Continuous" for the first 24 hours first. Note that you have to take some packaging stuff out of the collection bucket first. The unit actually collected water just fine and in 24 hours the bucket was full. We live in Michigan and this was in June and the unit was placed in our basement which is always humid. So, as far as the unit working and collecting water is concerned, it worked just fine and keeps reducing the humidity just fine. Some of the features I like about this unit are: a. it has 2 fan speeds; b. it has a digital control panel so you can set your desired humidity level digitally (our old one did not have this); c. it has a setting called "comfort" that automatically sets the desired humidity level; d. the water collecting bucket is in front; e. the bucket has a red gauge that shows how much water has been collected so far; f. it is much quieter that our old Sears model; and g. it is Energy Star complaint (I got $20 refund from Consumers Energy). The only reason I gave this a 4-star is because the bucket is a little flimsy and could have been manufactured better. The bucket is plastic and the handle is rather low quality.
