Questions & Answers

Which model pumps will fit in the box? Can the filters be washed out and reused over and over?

Asked by: SEAN
As long as the pump fits in the box it should work. I rinse the filters a 3-5 times then replace them since you can’t get everything out. The filters are only a couple dollars to replace.

Does this filter go inside the pond or outside or either?

Asked by: MrsR
The water intake is the top of the box so it needs to be in the water.

Does this hook up to a pump?

Im wanting to make my own pond with a waterfall. Do i need both a filter and pump? Does the filter then hook up to the pump? i dont really understand.
Asked by: Alissa
You need a pump to get the water to the top of the waterfall. You don't need a filter, but then you periodically need to clean out the pump and tubing. you put the pump inside the box. There is a lot more than you may think to making your own water feature - buy a book or Google how to do it yourself.

Is there a Gallon per hour limit?

I plan to use a 560 GPH pump in a 225 gallon pond, and connect it up to a small waterfall.
Asked by: Zeke
It all depends on the pump size.

Universal Pump Filter Box is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Never had a fish pond until the new home. ... Never had a fish pond until the new home. Water was merky and a lot of particles in water. Just had a pump with a wrapping around it. Followed the instructions, and placed pump inside the box. Three days later the water is clear and particles gone! The fish even seem happier! Works great!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works Well Overall The filter box works fairly well. My new pump did not have its own filter (which was a mistake) so my fountain heads were clogging within a few hours. This kit definitely solved that problem. It also helps to keep the pump level. The only issue I have had thus far is we have found the box floating a couple of times. Not sure why, it's pretty heavy when it's submerged and full of water. Fortunately the pump was still submerged and did not burn up. I have just rigged some suction cups to the bottom of the box. I haven't even tried this yet as I am waiting for the silicone to dry completely, but hopefully this solves that problem. Also, I'm not really sure if the included bio-balls do anything or not. Overall though, I am satisfied with this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pond filter box This works well to keep plant roots and gunk out of the pump so it doesn't jam and stop. The top does not stay on well so I use a bungie cord wrapped around it to keep it all together. That is why I gave it an average rating for quality and value, but I have been using an older one that the lid is kept on with screws, which isn't very convenient when working by a pond either. Wish they had a bigger size for another pump I have.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from uses another pump than the one i have. So, I bought the filter and I still have yet to use the thing because it uses a much smaller pump that goes into the filter. I only realized this once I received the package and read the instructions on the filter itself. So, just make sure you check and have the right pump before you buy the thing. I was careless and because of that im not giving this a bad review (or any review for that matter). Once I do however buy the right pump, I will be sure to write a review on that.
