48 Gal. Greenstone Trash Can with Wheels and Attached Lid

I have purchased several Toter wheeled trash cans (carts) over the years. Some of the items were stocked by Home Depot while others were special orders. This is the first time I am downgrading a rating for such a product. This particular cart has been at our house for about two weeks. Overall, Toter trash carts are functional. The lids are attached to the carts the ensure that they do not blow off in high wind conditions, or when the trash collector tosses them as opposed to setting them upright after being emptied out. The rear handle is comfortable to grab and there is a second grab point in the front so collectors can wheel the cart to the truck. There is a metal bar in the front of the cart which can be used by hydraulic lift mechanisms found on the back of many trash trucks. On my 48 gallon cart, the black colored lid shuts snug to the top of the cart to help keep rain/snow out and contents in. So, the reason for my downgrading my rating has to do with quality control. After I brought the cart home and began to fill it with shredded paper (which the trash collector advised cannot be recycled) I discovered that the thickness of the wall near the junction of the rear handle and the wall of the cart was so thin that it had several holes in it...and...the light from a flashlight leaked through the holes, and could be seen through the wall near said holes. This thinness will become a point of breakage over time. To be fair, this isn't necessarily a problem with the design of the cart itself. It is a problem with molding process where not enough material made it to that part of the body. Unfortunately, if the cart was inspected before it was shipped, the inspector(s) failed to catch the defects. Some of my other Toter carts have other defects from the molding process. Most common are openings in the walls of the carts in the handle area that are such that flies can get inside the cart, which has led to fly infestation problems. For carts that cannot be returned for whatever reason, a quick solution would be to fill the holes with silicone caulk. Frequent washings of the inside of the cart and, if the location of the holes can be found, shooting water into the holes to flush out any hiding insect larvae is another procedure to try. If this cart did not have the manufacturing defect that it does, I would have rated it a full five stars with a strong buy recommendation (with a side note to carefully inspect any cart purchased if it is available instore). I have taken pictures of the problem area of the cart. I will be heading back to Home Depot with them to see if they will be able to order another one for an exchange. If they can. hopefully the replacement cart won't have any body defects.

The bottom separated from the side walls and now allows fluids and trash to leak out. I was told it was not related due to the quality of the material or product but owner negligence so it would not be covered by warranty. It has wheels.....how can I neglect it by sliding it around on the ground? The warranty is a total joke. Find a better company who stands behind their product!

Strong sturdy trash bins. I just purchased 3 cans for a NYC building that I manage. The flip tops helped solved a mouse problem that the old cans could not. Highly Recommend.

The 48 gallon toter trash can cart is a very reliable product. We are very pleased with the durability of the trash can and the strength of the wheels; I would recommend this particular trash can to anyone.

This is the best can I have ever bought for garbage collecting. The size is perfect for packing in the trash. And even if the Sanitation Engineers miss a day, there is always room for some more. The lids stay on the can despite many strong winds that even toppled trees and removed siding. There only draw back is sometimes the stores run out of the bag sizes. No worries, you can order the bags online. I got two cans in 2014 and they are in the best condition. I am looking forward to buying another property and ordering more Toter 48 gallon cans; they are simply the best.

Heavy duty trash can ... sturdy. A bit on the heavier side for those who have go maneuver this around obstacles. I had one of these but needed to get a second one. My other lighter trash bin blew away .. not likely to happen with this one.

Well constructed , very rugged. It is heavier than what I expected so it might not be possible to utilize the total volume if your trash service restricts the weight.
