What comes in this package & can I use this product to insulate perimeter and between joists crawl space under house 30' x 40' x 2' and how much would I need?
Asked by: Female
All materials necessary to apply spray polyurethane foam are supplied except for personal protective equipment. This product is ideal for air sealing and insulating sill plates and rim joists. To determine the quantity of foam kits you require, first determine the square footage you wish to cover. Then multiply this by the number of inches thick you desire. This will tell you how many board feet you require. Divide the estimated board feet by 200 or 600 (depending upon which foam kit you purchase) for the total number of foam kits required to complete the installation.

How much of this will I need to do a 3,000 Sq ft house.

Asked by: Louis
How many kits to purchase depends upon how many board feet of material you desire to install. The aged r-value is 6.2 per inch. So if you want an r-value of 6.2, then apply 1” of spray foam. For an r-value of 12+ apply a 2” layer of spray foam, and so on. Determine the number of board feet you require by first measuring the square feet you desire to cover and then multiplying by the desired spray foam thickness. Divide the total number of board feet required by either 15, 200 or 600 depending upon which kit size you wish to purchase. This will give you the number of foam kits you need. Always add about 10% for overspray or waste.

Can you use this product to apply behind finished walls?

We are looking for a product to apply in the 2" to 4" gap between exterior masonry and interior finished walls (Plaster and Lathe) in our 100+ year old home. Can we drill a series of holes in the wall, insert the foam and then seal the holes? We live in the upper Midwest and we know we are loosing a lot of heat with no insulation and no vapor barrier.
Asked by: Fred
I do restoration on historic homes. so I know what you are dealing with. First, is this to go between the finished wall and the brick? I ask, because you need to keep in a moisture drain area behind the bricks. if you look around your foundation there will be weep holes for the condensation that travels thought your walls to escape. Covering these will result in condensation collection at the bottom of the wall, producing rot. As for your question, there is an easier and cheaper solution. I drill a large 1 ¼" hole in the outer wall near the ceiling as close as I can get to the top plate and blow in shredded paper insulation. This will eventually settle, and then you can use this product or the one in the single can to top off the insulation before plugging the holes. I have shiplap and wanted to expose it since I am in love with Red Pine, which is extinct and gives old houses that wonderful "old house smell". Since someone "helped" me clean up and threw away all the plugs I so carefully saved, I had to salvage more red pine and recut the plugs, which worked out fine, since I could use a slightly larger hole saw to make those, for a tighter fit. I used Elmer's glue with a screw in the center to use as a handle to hold them in place. By the time you go all around the house replacing the plugs the glue on the first ones will be dry, and you can back out the screw. Do not forget to drill holes in the cavities under the windows too. This is a very messy job, so clear out the furniture, cover everything with tarps and tape it off, then use the shop vac to clean up the worst of it, and go back with a regular vacuum for the furniture. You will need at least 2 people to run this machine. Grab all your ladders, and if you have moved out all the furniture you can and predrilled your holes, the insulation can be done in one day. I have used this method in several old houses including the one I am in. I have the thermostat set at 60* at night and it is still pretty comfortable, though I like to sleep cool. I rebuilt all the windows, removing all trim, and removed the upper window weights. I foamed this area mostly to seal it, since you can only go about 2" thick, leaving a gap for the lower sash weights to travel in. This has helped tremendously!

This product is very easy to use as long as the room, surface and product temperature requirements are met. Temperature application instructions are clearly written and critical to success. We have used it before and will probably use it again. We apply a thin 1 inch layer. It efficiently seals air leaks in stud walls and rim joists making fiberglass batt insulation so much more effective; especially in the older 2x4 framed houses that we renovate. Make sure that your work area is well prepped and ready for the foam. Ideally, you must continuously spray the product. Delays to move equipment or tools may result in a clogged nozzle. The kit includes extra nozzles (so no problem) but it is un-nerving to have >$300 worth of DIY product not function when you are on a budget. I would advise first timers to buy the smaller 200 system, just to get the hang of it, there are larger kits available that save a little money once you have some experience with the sprayer etc. Good Luck!

Compared to another brand I purchased at a different Big Box store, this product was sub par. I had purchased this for a bathroom remodel I was doing and waited until the ambient temp was almost 70 degrees. I followed the instructions for making sure the bottles were up to temp, prepping the canisters and getting everything set to spray. The first few passes were OK (two areas between a stud) but then the nozzle started clogging and the foam started just looking like spatter. I purged the lines in a bucket, cleaned the head and put a new nozzle on. Again, about 1 area and then clogging. I tried adjust the mix a bit to see if I could get some sort of uniformity, but it just got worse. After I had used up the product, there was still a ton of one bottle left that I had to dispose of, and the foam didn't nearly expand as much as hoped (or stated on the box/instructions.) I immediately went to the other store and purchased the DOW version which performed several times better and had way better finish/fill rate. Won't purchase this brand again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from saved me money First time product user. Went through 2 kits for my needs. Used on basement rim joist and inside bay window cantilevers. I was quoted $1500 to spray my basement so spending $600+ and doing it myself with care and attention was well worth it. The drafts are gone through all the cracks and holes. Unbelievable what you can see when you really look in these areas (will keep insects out as well). Using product was not hard. If you are a diy-er, you should be able to handle it (its like spray painting). Make sure temps are right on the product, your walls, your basement. I used a Black and Decker TLD100 to test temps. I noticed the fan nozzle used less product then the cone nozzle. Price wise I could have bought a 600kit for the same cost as two 200kits (lesson learned for others). I used this product along with Great Stuff for larger gaps to save use on this product. I topped off my work with R-30 insulation on the rim joist and inside the cantilevers. Waiting for my energy bills to reflect the difference. Will do attic next year using bigger 600 kit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome insulator I was questionable about using the product, concerned about the amount of space it would cover, smell, and possible mess it would make. 1. I used two kits because a larger kit was not available when I went to purchase to cover a 50 b 50 base ceiling joists and in case I did not like the product I could stop with a return of half my purchase. 2. I searched the web and found that there were issue with the smell in industrially applied foam. After applying the smell of paint odor was gone within hrs. of venting the basement. 3. With a little preparation can be limited. I cleared the area where I would be working to easily move the latter and I placed the spray kit on a flat cart so it rolled with me as I moved. I also pre placed the nozzles on the box so it was less time to replace them as they clogged. If any spray hit the ground of anywhere it did not belong, it is easily removed with a scrapper and shop vac. Over all I am extremely satisfied with the application; I only now realize how much heat was lost through the daft in the our basement.

Purchase this item to spray foam the walls of my fish house after reading the instructions and watching the video I've followed the instructions for prep and started to spray after spraying the foam had virtually no rise and it came out in a Milky slurry type texture figured I did something wrong went back but another can then the exact same thing happened with the second can very unsatisfied went to talk to Home Depot about it and they gave me a number to contact for the manufacturer after spending nearly $700 it would have just been cheaper to have a company come out and Spray Foam The Fish House

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for sill plate sealing I was told by my pest control company that I needed to replace all the fiberglass bats and seal up all the holes on my sill plate and rafter ends of the house. They quoted me so so so much money to replace the bats and do the sealing needed. Trying to not only save money but also replace with a superior product I chose this foam insulation. I’m a good DYIer but was a bit intimidated on this one for a one man job. Turns out the fiberglass bats I had were all black in areas mostly because they became essentially filters over 35 years as air passed dirt thru them. The foam seal really did the job of replacing the insulation and sealing where all the gaps were. Such a great product. Use was a piece of cake but you do need to be focused and completely plan out your area and how you are spraying everything. I used a 200 system as a test. I will now buy the 600 to finish the rest of the work. Really gets into those hard to reach spots. Recommend tyvex suit, full respirator enclosing goggles, gloves and a minors spotlight for on top of your head to give you best lighting. I also placed the kit on top of a rolling dolly to move it around as I moved. I also had a cardboard box with a garbage bag to use to get the system started and to ensure I sprayed every 25 seconds or so in case I was repositioning and wanted to keep system running.

The second one I got dripped in between trigger pulls. Also, when the material is getting to the end, it will not mix well and will not cure. Don’t use till the end. Overall good.

I used it at about 60-70 degrees and it didn’t work/wrong mixture and wasted $350+.... I tried it a second time and heated the chemicals in my truck via the AC to 80 degrees and heated the room temp to 80 and then it worked.
