What type of grout should I be using in a bathroom if my grout lines are 1/8 inch? Sanded or Sandless? Any other grout suggestions would be great!

Customer Reviews

Coastal Grey 12 in. x 24 in. Vinyl Tile Flooring (29 sq. ft. / case) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 274.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Vinyl Tile never looked so good Just finished grouting yesterday, and the 12" x 24" in a running bond pattern looks GREAT on our kitchen floor. Like others, we used this product because we're doing a mostly cosmetic upgrade with the kitchen, and weren't interested in spending a lot of money right now. These tiles cover a much-hated sheet vinyl floor, so the improvement is really incredible. We decided to grout because we were concerned about dirt collecting in the grooves and perhaps not having butted joints line-up perfectly enough. I'm glad we did, as it really improves the sense of "real" tile. We used a dark gray Armstrong acrylic grout--"shale" was the color, that we ordered separately through Amazon; the very dark grout is a good match, and makes sense in a kitchen for cleaning. Only time will tell how well the tile irself wears, and whether "groutable vinyl tile" is a product that should have ever been conceived...but for now, it looks great, and we are very happy with the look and feel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You'd Never Know It's Not Ceramic Tile I didn't have a big budget to replace the flooring in my bathroom, so after reading the reviews I decided to purchase this product. It went in over existing sheet vinyl flooring so the prep work was minimal. I received the product on Friday afternoon and by Saturday at noon the installation was complete, it was that easy. I am a 63 year old woman and had no problem at all installing these tiles, I used a sharp tile cutter knife purchased for about $15 and this made the cutting a breeze. Everyone thinks this floor is ceramic tile, it looks very rich and elegant. I finished it off with grey grout. I'm so happy with the results and would definitely recommend it to anyone wishing to upgrade the look of their flooring. I only wish I had known about this product sooner instead of living with my ugly bathroom floor all these years. Great product for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stop considering it--just buy! After purchasing our new home this summer, we won't have the funds available to fully renovate our 90s-era kitchen for a while. However, the hideous checkerboard floor was something I couldn't live with, and we decided to go the peel & stick tile route. Well this product totally exceeded my expectations for our "temporary fix". The 12" x 24" size gives the tile a very modern look, and we were able to install it in a herringbone pattern for an extra style edge. All of our friends were shocked at the housewarming party that (1) I had installed the floor myself in an evening, (2) it wasn't "real tile", and (3) just how durable and comfortable it is to walk on. I have 3 small children and pets, and this material is ideal for their heavy traffic. We've had it installed for about 2 months now in the busiest room of the house, and it is still looking great (despite all the rain and mud we've had recently).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vinyl has come a long way! Very realistic! I had no experience with flooring before I bought this product. I cleaned my tiny bathroom's sheet linoleum and then laid these tiles down over top. I didn't even remove the baseboards. The process went so smoothly without any mistakes. I took me a while to cut the tiles with my utility knife but maybe it wasn't sharp enough. I used the 1/8' spacers for the first few tiles and then just eye-balled the rest. My 25 sq/ft bathroom required one case of tiles and I had 2 whole tiles left over plus scraps. It took me 8 hours total, 45 min for the grout. I used the Delorean gray grout and it was so easy to use. Only required a tiny bit of the quart container. The overall look is very nice and looks like real ceramic tile but a nicer feel under your feet. It made a huge difference in my 1990s bathroom. I would recommend this exact tile to anyone without hesitation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Some very important tips You absolutely MUST follow the directions. We installed this on an above grade, concrete floor. Our house was built in 1977 and at some point a tar base adhesive was used on the floor. This stuff is called "cutback" and it stains the concrete and is also absorbed into the cement. So, it must be encapsulated or it will react with the adhesive on the back of the tiles and you will have problems. We used a skim coat of Henry's Feather-finish to encapsulate the residue. After that was completely dry, we sanded any high spots, and vacuumed thoroughly. We primed with Henry's 336 Bond Enhancer, and used Simple grout (pre-mixed) in Natural Gray. I used a plastic putty knife to push the grout into the spaces, but it appears that the gout actually marred the surface of the tiles in some areas. So, I would suggest another method for that. You must only do a small area of grouting (like just a couple of feet) and then remove all of the excess grout completely and immediately with a wet sponge. You'll need to change water frequently. I actually used two buckets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for beginner DIY-er I absolutely love this tile. I installed in my bathroom (about 30 sf) myself. I installed it right overtop the old peel-and-stick tile, and used the recommended pre-mixed Simple Grout in Alabaster. It looks absolutely beautiful! I found it easiest to use an exacto knife to score the tiles (don't try to cut all the way through), then snap. This was easy for straight lines, but for curves, I recommend using pliers to gently bend and crack the tile all along the score line before snapping it completely off. I broke a few tiles along curves due to impatience. The pliers will really help save your fingers too! I used a 1/8" grout line but ended up not using the spacers very much. And, of course, make sure you buy extra... I had exactly enough for the room, and messed up a cut, so I had to order an entire case for that one tile. Just save yourself the headache and buy extra.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprisingly good The product looks surprisingly good. Most people won't be able to tell it's not porcelain tile. If I could rate Home Depot, I would knock them a bit. There should be samples available in store for this line of flooring, not just the display 15 feet up in the air where you can't really see it. I was a bit worried ordering the product because I couldn't look it over well in the store, nor could I take a sample home. When the boxes arrived, I was pleased by the quality of the material. There was 1 tile in each box that had a blemish/flaw. Small quality control issue... I'm also disappointed Home Depot doesn't sell the Roberts adhesive specifically formulated for these vinyl tile floors. This is a self stick product but I would have liked to add a little more adhesive to ensure a secure install that doesn't shift around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product!! I can't praise this enough. Have done a few ceramic tile projects in the past, and given the less-than-substantial framing in my place I knew I didn't have the energy to beef up the floor joists, nor did I want the extra height that would have been the result of adding another layer of tile backer to give enough stability for tile. Saw the TrafficMaster display at Home Depot and purchased the one available at the store. Took it home, cleaned the second bath floor with heavy duty cleaner then used a product that the salesman recommended to enhance the ability of the adhesive on the underside of the tile to really adhere. I also had purchased a carbide tipped knife at Home Depot which cut very well allowing for repetitive scores to eventually cut deep enough to bend the tile at the cut. The adhesive works very well, so make sure you put the tile in the right place the first time. You won't be able to move it. I used the grout recommended. The floor is stunning. Looks like ceramic, but is warmer to the touch. Was so pleased I ordered the 12 X 24 Coastal Grey for the bigger bath. Am very contented with the result.
