Good morning. Thank you for reaching out to us with your question. Yes, this flooring can be installed over a concrete subfloor. The concrete needs to be clean, smooth, flat, and dry. The concrete can be coated with Armstrong S-185 latex primer to help enhance the bond of the flooring. Here is a link to the installation instructions. https://sforce.co/35ddktF I hope this information is helpful. Have a great day.

Is there a good reasons to not use on concrete garage floor?

Asked by Tp November 7, 2020

Answer

Good morning. Thank you for reaching out to us with your question. In order for flooring materials to be installed in residential or commercial garages, the flooring material must meet the International Residential Code R 309 for Garages and Carports for one and two family residential buildings or the International Building Code 406.2 for all other buildings. The codes outline garage floor surfaces shall be of approved non-combustible material. Armstrong flooring products do not meet these standards and therefore should not be installed in parking garage areas where vehicles will be parked on the surface of the Armstrong floor. In addition, Armstrong flooring should only be installed in temperature-controlled environments. Normally garages are not temperature-controlled areas. After installation, the temperature should be maintained at a minimum of 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Most garage floors have also had gas and oil dripped or spilled on them. This residue in the substrate will inhibit the new floor's adhesive from working properly. Automobile fluids (such as brake and transmission fluids, and also oil) if leaked onto the resilient flooring can seep into the joints of the tile and break down the adhesive; this would create a bonding issue and a possible installation failure. Additionally, the oils and antioxidants used in the manufacturing process of rubber tires will cause a permanent yellow discoloration to any vinyl flooring. Also, exposure to moisture from rain, snow, or sleet and varying temperatures will have a damaging affect on both tile and sheet flooring. As you can see, we cannot recommend the installation of our floors in a garage. I hope this information is helpful. Have a great day.

Good afternoon. Thank you for reaching out to us with your question. Yes, this floor can be installed over flooring, as long as the existing flooring is a single layer of non-cushioned flooring, fully glued down, clean and free of waxes and polishes, and is flat and smooth. The paint will need to be removed from the flooring, and any texturing will need to be smoothed over with S-194 Patch, Underlayment & Embossing Leveler mixed with the S-195 Underlayment Additive. Here is a link to our installation instructions for this floor. https://sforce.co/3mouPgj I hope this information is helpful. Have a great day.

I've had these tiles in my kitchen for about 2 1/2 years now and they still look like new. No indentations from my refrigerator and my kitchen chairs haven't scratched it either. I also have 3 dogs, and 2 of them are big dogs. No scratches from them running thru the kitchen either.

Can this be used around my gas fireplace on top of other tiles?

Asked by MS September 16, 2020
1
Answer

Good afternoon. Thank you for reaching out to us with your question. The determining factor for this question is how much heat is the floor in front of the fireplace exposed to? If there is not a blower at floor level that heats the floor it will be fine to install; however, if the temperature of the floor in front of the fireplace goes above 85 degrees F, we would not recommend installing. I hope this information is helpful. Have a great day.

do I need to seal a plywood floor

Asked by Anthony September 6, 2020

Answer

Good morning Anthony. Thank you for reaching out to us with your question. A plywood subfloor does not need to be sealed; however, plywood can be primed with Armstrong S-185 latex primer. You should also make sure the plywood has a smooth sanded face for installing vinyl flooring. If not you will need to install 1/4" underlayment panels to install the flooring over. Here is a link to our plywood recommendations. https://sforce.co/2ZhyIui I hope this information is helpful. Have a great day.

aesthetically poor design
I made this purchase with the intent of grouting the tiles I thought these would be different than the standard peel and stick tiles by trafficmaster possibly with chamfered edges. I was unsure of the design since there was no floor models or samples available in store. what I received was quite disappointing. not only were the edges the same as the 12in tiles that were on display in the store, but grain pattern was very limited. there were only three patterns in the tiles and rotating them allowed for some variation in the look but over a 10 by 10 area the repetition in the pattern was quite obvious. the grain is very high contrast to the tiles and does not look like Travertine. there is a relief stamped into the tile that does not match the veins printed on the surface. I will be replacing these with the 12in travertine peel and stick with the same lifetime warranty. I will also be grouting the 12in peel and stick even though it does not say groutable I understand that they can be grouted regardless. the attached photo is the 3 patterns in the tile that just repeat.

Response from Armstrong FlooringOctober 22, 2020
Good morning. Thank you for taking the time to post your comments. We are sorry to hear that you are not happy with your flooring purchase. The edges of this tile have a slight roundness to them which allows for grouting. The standard 12" tiles will typically have a square or straight edge which doesn't hold the grout as well. It is odd that you only received 3 different tile designs, because there are multiple designs that can be found in this flooring line. This flooring does have the TrafficMASTER Do-It-Yourself (DIY) lifetime warranty for Armstrong resilient tile, which means that for the lifetime from the date of purchase, if for ANY reason you are dissatisfied with your floor, the manufacturer will give you replacement tile. Again I am sorry you are not happy with your purchase. Armstrong

Good morning Patricia. Thank you for reaching out to us with your comments. We are sorry to hear that you’re unhappy with the performance of your floor and would welcome the opportunity to review this further. Whenever you have a problem with your floor, you begin by going back to the store where the material was purchased. You will need your sales receipt as it serves as your proof of purchase. A flooring associate from the store will start the process for filing a claim against the manufacturer's warranty. Again I do apologize for any inconvenience. Have a great day. Armstrong

have tried to attach a picture of the kitchen floor. I hope it worked. It turned out really great with this tile! I did a complicated Versailles pattern and used vinyl tile grout, which is a little different from regular grout. It looks for all the world like slate. I love it. It was easy to cut with a utility knife.

Easy to install but I had a hard time finding the original color I started with in the 18×18 tiles (Chestnut slate). So I used the Slate to finish the job, it was as close as I could get with this brand. My floor still looks good, only I know the difference in the tiles.

This was my first time laying vinyl tile. 18 x 18 in my small full bath. I was concerned the large tiles would overwhelm the space, but it looks so elegant. Be sure to do the grout! I used 1/8 spacers for the grout lines and a light gray grout and the results are superb. The grout made the project look high end and when finished, I opted not to reinstall my 1/4 round molding--1/4 round looks like you are hiding bad cuts. In my old home I had "real" 18 x 18 travertine and honestly it's hard to tell the difference, because of the grout lines and variations of color tones in the tile I'm now redoing my master bath and a 1/2 bath. Tips: use a hairdryer to soften the tiles and activate the glue, when installing around awkward places like the toilet. Make a template...I used two sheets of paper to make a template for my toilet and then taped them together on the tile to make my cuts.

quick updated bathroom!
I put this light travertine 18x 18 tile in my guest bath for an updated look until we completly renovate next year. I cut them (easily) in half giving me 9x18 pieces. I used white premixed grout. These tile laid right over the old ones. Love it!

Relatively easy to cut and simple to install. Just be sure to prep floor well and plan your layout. Note that corners of tile are a bit fragile, especially after cutting -- it's easy to damage corners if you don't handle them carefully when placing them. Grout does help recolor and hide the cut edges and any small corner nicks. Can't comment on durability yet, as only just installed them a week ago. Plan to seal the grout for better water and stain resistance.

Easy to install but be careful of corners when working with it because they can be damaged easily. I put down without grout and it looks great in my kitchen. I'm a 60 year old woman so if I can do it anyone can. Love the look. Good thickness, sticks well, rolled over it with my rolling pin like the demo showed. I chose to lay it on diagonal after watching a few YouTube videos. Learned how to make templates for difficult cuts around the door jams plus a few tricks for measuring cuts at walls. Very pleased with the finished project. Laid it over old sheet vinyl, just vacuumed and cleaned it well before starting.
