A: No previous carpet has to be removed prior to installation.
A: No that would not work, the adhesive on the carpet squares is not aggressive enough. The pile of the carpet that the squares were to go over would have to be more like vinyl not fuzzy carpet to work.
A: No the old carpet needs to be removed first before you install the new carpet.
A: I am familiar with a floating floor in laminate flooring but that is to allow flooring to acclimate to varying room temp. This type of flooring is different. If you taped pieces together in the back side, it would be more of an area rug, which would be nice too, for a smaller area of the room. I installed these squares over the entire floor area and used four pieces of double backing tape to keep each square in place. It has held perfectly for 3 years now.
