Questions & Answers

How long after applied can it be painted?

Asked by: Sandi
There are no instructions (at all) on the label, just a bunch of warnings that will lead you to believe you're going to die if you get this stuff on you?! That said, I've used a lot of this over the yrs and in my experience, I'd wait at least a few days (like 3-4) if it is warm out (75+ day time temp), or a week if it's cooler. Less than that and I've had problems with the paint no adhering properly, and seam to have more separation of the caulk from the joint.

How long does this have to cure before it rains?

Vulkem requires no real cure time to with stand rain, but if you sprinkle a little sand mix to blend it in with concrete you may want to get wet for 12 to 24 hours so the sand mix won't wash out. You can add Vulkem to old repairs that is separating due to expansion with out replacing old sealant, just wire brush it a bit and add new sealant. I have been doing this process for many years with great results. My house is on a hillside and most concrete surfaces expand and contract due to climate change.

Will Tremco White Vulkem 116 work as a prep to repair and seal cracks in a circular outdoor wate...

Will Tremco White Vulkem 116 work as a prep to repair and seal cracks in a circular outdoor water fountain basin (5' in diameter) that holds approx. one foot of water (when filled) and which will then be followed up with 2 coats of Zinnser Water-Tite Waterproofing paint after the Vulkem has time to cure? Please advise.
Asked by: Denny
I don’t see why this wouldn’t work for your project. A swimming pool contractor recommended that I use vulkem 116 to seal the skimmer to pool gap. After draining water and allowing the area to dry, I applied Vulkem primer and while the primer was still wet, I applied Vulkem to the gap. This is now under water and has been sealing well. It was recommended that I use Vulkem primer to insure a good bond. I bought the primer from an online source because it is not available at Home Depot.

Will this product work on metal.

Will this product work on metal.
Asked by: Bro
Probably, but it might depend on what you are doing. More info would get you a better answer. Are you sealing metal to metal, or metal to something else? Will you be able to stabilize/compress the joint while its drying? Etc.
