Hello, and thank you for choosing Trex. When using the 1x6 Enhance or Select decking boards Trex recommends a maximum stair stringer spacing of 9" on center. If using the Transcend 1x6 decking line the maximum stair stringer spacing is 12" on center. For safety reasons the stair stringer spacing requirements are more strict than joist spacing due to the extra force exerted on stairs when people come down them. I hope this helps answer your question. Thanks, Tori - Trex Customer Care Team

Hi Steve, Thanks for considering Trex! We do not recommend securing boards to concrete with exterior glue. Here is a link to our installation guide - https://documents.trex.com/is/content/Trex/decking-installation-chapter-fourpdf.pdf On page 25, you will find a list of our recommended fasteners. No but if I were making a rope swing with the boards, I would use one of the 8 foot square ended boards and probably double it up as there can snap in half

These are sturdy boards that I used for my main deck area. They arrived via delivery truck in great shape and matched the other beach dune boards and fascia. They are an inch thick and do great over a 16" minumum span. The brown is a great shade. They will get dirty and need a good rain or strong hosing to get completely clean. They are fairly resistant to damage and are harder to damage than wood such as a soft pine. In direct summer sun, you will need shoes to walk on them. A few things I learned from working with these boards. -I was able to use two Trex clips to secure a butt joint with a 1/8" gap (see picture) -They are easier to work and take screws better (countersink) when they have been heated in the sun. -As with all Trex products, saw dust from these boards is not bio-degradable so only cut where you can clean up. I cut all of mine over the deck. -I got as close as 1" from the edge with screws. If I used a screw within an inch, it split. I used Grip-Rite Coarse Brown composite screws which were a near perfect match.

Had a 500 sq ft deck installed in 2007. Trex was suppose to be a no maintenance product that didn't fade. The color was supposedly guaranteed for the life of the product. Well it faded within 3 years. I see other comments saying the same thing. I love the Trex response that it is the older product and the newer one doesn't have this issue. Well supposedly the original wasn't suppose to have this issue either. Matter of fact there was a color fast guarantee. Think this new product has the same guarantee? Wouldn't trust any warranty from this company. As for the new product, we had to add a few more feet to our existing deck. The new decking is thinner than the original. The original was 1 1/8 inch thick. The new is 7/8 inch thick. Try matching that up to an existing deck. It obviously isn't as firm under foot. You will need more cross joints to support this weaker board. The protective cover, basically looks like a plastic coat, is very slippery. The original Trex was definitely non-skid and I always felt secure walking on it. This new stuff is non-grip. With soft rubber soles or bare foot, you will probably be okay, but with some water or leather soles, stay inside. The core material is also sub standard. The original Trex was one solid piece that was very strong. The new stuff is some kind of softer composite capped with that slippery plastic coating. I've already had some of the new stuff fail as the material broke off and the boards came loose. Do not recommend this product at all. Quality just isn't there. Other than the color fade, the original Trex was a far superior product. This new stuff seems like a cheaply made substitute.

Hi Bruce,
I'm sorry to hear that you are unhappy with the product. Trex decking requires far lower maintenance than wood decking, but does require some maintenance to keep it looking good throughout the years, much like washing your car. For early generation composite decking (Trex Accents), periodic cleaning with a deck wash is required. Trex high-performance decking (Trex Transcend, Trex Enhance and Trex Select) require less work – a simple soap and water cleaning is all that is necessary to maintain the beauty of the products. Our decking products – Trex Transcend, Trex Enhance and Trex Select – are rated for appropriate slip resistant properties for horizontal walking surfaces. However like any outdoor surface, use standard precautions when wet. Many decks are built near water. In fact, our boards are often used for dock construction.

The requirement of the American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA) is the coefficient of friction must be 0.5 or greater for a walking surface, 0.6 for accessibility routes (means of egress) and 0.8 for a ramp. The higher the number the greater the slip resistance, or better traction. Trex passes ADA requirements for horizontal walking surfaces (flat decks and stair treads). Trex does not pass ADA requirements for ramp applications. If Trex is to be used in a ramp configuration that must meet ADA guidelines either an abrasive product or an anti-slip alternative such as grip tape will need to be applied to receive the proper friction properties. -Jay Customer Care Team.
