Q:My deck & handicap ramp is built w/Trex Transcend Tiki Torch & too slick for someone handicapped. I'd it to be less slick to prevent a fall. I was told that you shouldn?t paint the Trex boards but can Trex Protect:Trex RainEscape be used? Please advise.

    Answer This Question

A:  Hello Julie. This is not the application that Trex Protect was designed for and I don't think that it would be a good use of the Trex Protect tape. Hopefully you find something that works well.

A:  I wouldn’t use that for that application.  Get singe rolls of 1/2-2” skid material that you just roll off the width of the ramp and place them roughly 6-8 inches apart down the ramp.  It’s self adhesive and easy to work with and very gritty so you won’t slip.

Q:if using this product with the drainage system, is the joist tape still necessary?

        Answer This Question

A:  If you are using the Trexrainescape system you do not have to use the TrexProtect joist tape. You will have to use the 4” Trexrainescape tape to seal the trough between each bay. Please feel free to call with questions. 877-348-1385

Q:How is this different from 20 mil door and window flashing butyl tape?

          Answer This Question

A:  Manufacturers make changes to their product for each application. Some need it to last a few years some need to last many years, some need to be able to sell at a certain price point so they might use less sealant or use other materials that are less expensive. Some materials can have chemical reactions with other materials shortening the life of the product. Trexrainescape is specifically formulated to work with our caulking and plastic materials. It’s the only way we can offer a 20 year warranty by knowing what materials our product comes in contact with.

            Flaws in the material
So the tape has allot of internal flaws in it. I have found long cuts/slices in the tape. This has happened in about 3 out of 7 rolls I have bought. The are not at the start of the roll, so I know I didn't do it while un-packaging it. So when taping the seems it is difficult to know if those flaws are going to cause a leak. There is issues with the adhesive coming unstuck as the sun /shade hits it. Overall for the price I would have expected a better product.

            John,

I don't know if we've ever seen this happen. Can you please send pictures to info@trexrainescape.com? We'd certainly take care of you. -Griff
Product did not stick very well for being $70 dollars a roll. Worried about the longevity of the waterproof deck. If it couldn’t stick for 24 hours how is it supposed to stick for 15+ years.

So the tape I got had allot of internal defects that caused the black material to tear, not good for a material that is supposed to stop leaks. Also the tape seems to stick initially pretty well. but peels quite a bit after some time. I am giving three stars, cause so far (after about a month) I have not seen any leaks, but with these issues I still have concerns.

                  Execellent waterproof tape
I have tried a few different wayer proof tapes and this is by far the best, and the most expensive. It will take more tape to do a job then you would expect. Order a few extra.
