Can it be used for a floor in a shed that has heavy weight on it like a motorcycle

Asked by Newcastle July 20, 2020

Answer

Hello, and thank you for your interest in Trex! Trex is not recommended to be installed directly onto a flat surface, however Trex decking can be installed over a flat surface once a "sleeper system" is added. Adding in a sleeper system creates a substructure between the Trex and the flat surface below which allows for drainage, airflow, and access. The minimum sleeper system height is 1.5", in addition the sleepers should be built using code approved structural material such as pressure treated lumber and spaced to Trex's joist spanning requirements for proper support. Regarding heavy weight loads Trex recommends contacting a local code official or building engineer for span recommendations in this area. I hope this helps answer your question. Thanks, Tori - Trex Customer Care Team

can it be installed on top of wood planking

Asked by lenny June 16, 2020

Answer

Hello Lenny, and thank you for your interest in Trex! Trex decking should not be installed onto a flat surface of any kind, or a water tight system as this would prevent drainage and airflow necessary for the boards performance. Furthermore Trex recommends a minimum sleeper system, or framing height of 1.5". In addition the joists or sleepers should be made of building code approve structural material that is spaced a maximum of 16" on center, level, and secured in a manner that secures the framing system. I hope this helps answer your question. Thanks, Tori - Trex Customer Care Team

Hello, June, and thank you for considering Trex materials. We suggest using our online tool for creating an accurate material list of everything you will need for your deck project. It's called the Trex Deck Designer Desktop Tool and can be found on trex.com. Kindly, Elisabeth-Trex Customer Care

Can TREX be nailed or screwed to a wall as a small accent feature? Thank you.

Asked by 10990 June 12, 2020

Answer

Hello, and thank you for your interest in Trex! For vertical installations Trex recommends using Trex fascia which is designed to be used on a vertical plane as deck skirting, however there are also instructions for using decking in a fascia application as well. For vertical applications Trex fascia would call for Trex approved fascia screws for installation, and Trex decking would call for Trex approved composite decking screws. Please refer to the Trex installation guide for specifics. Thanks, Tori - Trex Customer Care Team

Deck Board Sample - Tiki Torch
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Deck Board Sample was more than I expected. Meaning, the color when I placed it beside my exterior bricks matched perfectly. Creating or constructing a open deck with this Tiki Torch deck board material will set stability and give my home a upscale look. Talk about adding value to your home. The thickness of this product is exceptional. To me the surface seemed to be slip free. Meaning if wet you do not have to worry about slipping. Also the grain of material used gives the product a profound durability. So do I recommend this product...I do. For me it will work out great.

Feels Tough, Nice Color
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After looking at, walking on, and spilling liquids on this deck board sample I would definitely consider it if I was in the market for new decking for our home. The thing I like the most is that the board itself is covered with a plastic-like cover, making it weatherproof. It also means no more cleaning and painting every year. It does resemble a real-life board but you can tell it is not. It appears to be made of a thick press board that is coated and shaped to look like regular deck boarding, either grooved or square edge. I also like that there are many colors to choose from, either a dark or light to match your style. I like the lighter color myself, Trex Tiki Torch.

Slip-free, durable, easy clean, long warranty
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Maintenance free finish, slip-free safety, durability, recycled materials, and the 25-year guarantee against fading and staining are especially important to us. The heavy Trex Transcend Deck Board has deep snap-together grooves for secure assembly and will provide the features we need as well as enhancing the looks and usefulness of our current unfinished wood deck. Debris washes off easily with a hose, and rainwater sweeps off easily. To test safety, I wet the samples thoroughly, then walked on them with bare feet and with smooth-sole sandals, and the textured grain provided a secure footing. Matching railings are available too, so there is no need to try to match finish. Tiki Torch is an eye-pleasing medium brown that blends with our rural location.

Sturdy and well made
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received the sample of Transcend Tiki torch deck board. Its solid and sturdy I would have to no fear of it warping. I love the 25 year limited warranty on no fading! The fact its made out of 95% recycled material is awesome. You can not tell by the way its made. The detail in the wood grain is awesome. The only way to tell the difference between real wood and the deck board is by stepping on it. The deck board is smoother then wood and no worries of splinters

Solid decking
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received a nice sized sample of Tiki Torch by Trex deck board. I love the color and most importantly the quality of the decking board. It is comfortable to walk on and is a rich color that looks like it will hold up very well on our outdoor deck. We currently have a wood deck of a good size and I am definitely considering replacing our wood boards with this deck board. The boards have grooves and look as if they will slide together quite easily. We have four seasons and this board definitely looks of the quality to withstand water and snow and the sun. I would rate this a high quality item.

Hello, Thank you for the positive review! I hope you like the Tiki Torch colored boards! - Steve, Trex Customer Care Trex
I do not recommend Trex deck boards!
My contractor talked me into using this product — purchased from Home Depot — for a large deck. It was a very expensive project, and I expected the deck to remain in good shape for at least a decade. But within a few months of exposure to the elements, the deck boards had shrunk considerably. Some of the boards warped. The deck has been in for a little over a year, and the boards are so shrunken now that you can see all of the undermounting clips. There has been significant fading, too. This is a terrible product! I would not recommend it to anyone. (I plan to file a warranty claim, but from what I have read online I would say that I have little chance of success.)

Ordered and paid for three samples - all on the brown family. They came but although there's tag on the back it does not denote the color name/ number. Yes , I can go on line and guess which one is which but how am I supposed to order thousands of dollars of non stock decking based on unmarked samples?

Hello, and thank you for choosing Trex. We apologize for any inconvenience caused if a board was not labeled, however it would be out of the ordinary for multiple boards to come this way so please be sure to check out the end of the board as there should be a clear sticker labeling each board listing the deck line name, and the specific color name. I hope this helps and if not please contact our customer care team at 1-800-289-8739 as we can send out replacements if needed. Thanks, Tori - Trex Customer Care Team Trex
