So far I am very pleased with this mower. But I do have some issues with it. I love the option for side discharge or mulch. Most mowers have this but my old one didn't so its nice to have. For the first few months I was able to use it in the mulch configuration with no problems. Very rarely did it bog down and only once did it kill when I hit a patch of grass that was deeper and thicker than I thought. But with all the rain lately the grass gets so high that I've had to use the side discharge. It cuts right through almost knee high grass with no problem. Overall I love this mower and the only reason I didn't give it a 5 out of 5 stars is because it isn't the easiest to start. Also, the last time I mowed my lawn it started to rev up and down a lot. I want to love this thing but for the money I paid it should last 10 years, but it feels like it won't last two. When I first got it, it met or even exceeded my expectations. Five months later, I'm not so sure.

Highly recommend Troy Built basic lawn mower.
Great value lawn mower. Easy assembly, even comes with oil for the engine. It isn't self-propelled and has no grass collector, but has everything else mowers twice the price don't. Easy start, light weight but durable. Great value

Nice mower, questionable quality
This is a nice mower. It's lightweight and simple to use. Nothing stands out as wow but I wasn't looking for wow. I originally purchased a Yardmax mower but had to take it back because the paint was chipped and peeling out of the box. I've used the Troy-Bilt three times so far. It cuts great and is easy to maneuver.
The reason why I gave a three star is that after three uses (less than 1 month of ownership) I went to clean the underside of the deck. I used a plastic scraper and almost all of the paint started coming off with the grass. I've seen paint come off other push mowers before, but this was coming off in sheets…and so quickly. I reached out to Troy-Bilt customer support and they're going to send me a can of spray paint. Guess I get to fix their mistakes. I looked at their website for quality and felt good about getting this mower, but I'm wondering if I made the right choice. Hopefully all will be fine with the spray paint and I won't have wasted $220.

Good light duty mower
This is a great light duty mower. If you have a medium sized yard you will enjoy this mower. It is light and it has started first pull every time and does the job well.
The only problems i found were:
Light Duty - My grass gets a little tall and thick sometimes and that coupled with any wetness has allowed grass to accumulate under the mower deck and it does give the blade a little trouble. Most times i just have to push down on the handle and lift the deck and it spits enough out to keep on keeping on. This is not a heavy duty mower.
Small gas tank - the Home Depot specs say this mower holds .2 gallons. I have a decent medium sized yard and it has been fine, but one time i stopped to fidget with my phone too much and i needed a refill to finish. If you have a really large yard it might take a fillup to get it all.
TL;DR - good cheap light duty mower

I love this 21" Troybilt 2 in 1 mower. It's light weight and powerful. I bought it to use for a trim mower. I have a 46" lawn tractor that I use as my primary mower but in order to test this Troybilt push mower I have push mowed my 1.25 acre lawn twice with the Troybilt. I am almost 72 years old and I have no problem with this mower. At 60 pounds, it weighs 28 pounds less than my 11 year old Toro Personal Pace that is no longer self propelled, and I've been using it to trim, so the Troybilt feels like its floating across the yard.
The plastic flap that covers the discharge port when in mulching mode does not fit tightly against the mower deck, so some small amount of grass clippings do blow out around the mulch cover. In the side discharge mode the clippings are well disbursed with no clumping. I need to refill the gas tank once during the 1.25 acre mow, but the smaller gas tank helps in keeping the overall weight down
I am replacing the standard oil drain plug with a metric M10-1.25 male hose connection and an oil drain tube so I can change engine oil without getting oil all over the top of the mower deck. The handle is a bit uncomfortable so I cut a short section of foam pipe insulation to slide over the metal handle and that made the handle grip softer. It is little louder than my Toro Personal Pace 7 hp Briggs/Stratton but that mower cost over twice as much so it's not a fair comparison. Those big rear wheels help make a smooth cut.
The not-so-snug mulch cover, low oil drain plug and uncomfortable handle are minor complaints and all were easily corrected. Otherwise it's a smooth running engine, starts first pull every time, cuts well and is easy to push around.
I recommend this mower. My wife liked it so much she wanted me to buy a second one so we can both mow at the same time but I suggested we just keep the one Troybilt and take turns using it!

For under $250 this mower was above expectations. With not having a working mower our grass got extra high. This mower started on first pull. It only stalled once because the grass in the area was wet. After clearing it started right back up. Love the mulching feature. No grass clippings flying everywhere. And it was delivered early.

Great little mower, easy to start, assembly was a snap, serves it's purpose well, price was right. I have a Troy-Bilt weed eater that I bought 20 years ago and I've never had a problem with it so I'm staying with Troy-Bilt and considering buying a Troy-Bilt riding mower.

On the rear side of the mower between the rear wheel the red metal mower deck is covered with a black piece of plastic that also has a hinged flap and the bottom. The black piece of plastic hangs down approximately 1 inch lower than the bottom edge of the red metal deck and then the hinged flap hangs down just a little bit lower, Because this black plastic hangs down lower than the deck proper the mower has unusual rolling resistance going forward in thick grass and it has a much greater rolling resistance when pulling it backwards and the flap folds under the deck. I cut my grass at 3" inches which is the highest setting and i am cutting winter rye in North Texas. When I cut thinner and sparse grass it's not as bad but this mower would never work well for Bermuda, St. Augustine or other thick grasses. The attached photo is with the mower on it's highest setting and you can see how close the black plastic and even the mower deck is to the bottom of the wheel. The engineers who design this stuff should have to use it.

not so good features
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] the handle for setting the mower in motion is too far down. Have to over reach to grap handle to pull to mower handle to start front wheels moving. Also the clippings bag drags on ground when pulling mower backwards. I had to add a rope to the end of the bag to keep off ground.

Just got it and mowed once. So far it is great and wheelchair bound husband can start it and mow. This is a big plus for us as he loves to mow. Light weight easy to start.
