Does this unit have low oil shut off?

Asked by Richard September 28, 2020

Answers

No. Change the oil as needed. I f you can, look at 6 hours of use each season to satisfy a change. if you only use it a couple of times, replace the oil the next year. Richard, keep in mind that the best method is checking the dip stick. If the oil is clear to a point you can read it, you'll always be good to go. If not sure, uses a clean white paper towel and wipe the stick. A little grey is good--a very light brown color shows midway... and a darker brown reddish tint means it's time for a change. In my 30 year experience, I've never seen anything that will tell the operator the best time to change the life-blood of any engine. You can drive an engine 2 hours hard, but can never compare that to 8 hours of light duty. :-)

Customer review from troybilt.com logo
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this last month because my husband wanted it before we started getting storms here in Fargo, North Dakota. He was able to use it yesterday and will have to use it again today. He has severe shoulder problems, so can not help me shovel snow. I am 51 and he is 61. We have 3 neighbor friends who are also 50's to 70's with medical problems. We live in a mobile home park and the road was plowed yesterday in a lull in the snow storm. My husband easily cleared the snow bank in front of our parking lot and then cleared our lot around our cars. He then continued to do the same for our 3 neighbors. After putting the snow blower back in the shed, and easily cleaning it up, he came back into the house and couldn't stop praising his new "play toy". This is the first winter, in the 20 1/2 years of our marriage, that he has not complained constantly about the snow.

This was the second one I received, as the shippers destroyed the first. This one came mostly assembled and took about 10 minutes to put together. I used the electric start to do the first start but that wasn’t necessary because it started almost instantly. I put it to work and it did wonderfully—the heated handles are a luxury and they made it even more pleasant to use. I got this as an upgrade to a single stage walk behind Troy Bilt that I have used for years. Because of the longevity of the first one, I suspect this one will last a long time.

Great traction, power, ease of use and hand warmers to boot. Home Depot delivery was a snap. We've recently moved to what appears to be a snow belt of Southern Maine. This machine is very capable in heavy or deep snow and the only practical solution for a driveway too tight to plow and too wide to throw by shovel.
