Product Overview

The Super Bronco CRT rear-tine rototiller from Troy-Bilt offers an outstanding value for a small or mid-size garden. The Super Bronco tiller gives you Counter-Rotating technology plus features normally found only on larger models - such as Just 1-hand Operation. Powerful enough to till deeply, yet small enough to fit between rows, the Super Bronco tiller is designed to tackle any task in your garden with ease.
  • All Troy-Bilt rear-tine tillers feature patented bolo tines, which are 3 uniquely shaped tines, each tine is designed to do a separate task, yet work together to create finely tilled soil, ready for planting
  • Our rear-tine tillers use a patented cast-iron encased transmission with bronze gear drive that provides so much extra strength and durability, we cover it with a limited lifetime warranty
  • 208 cc OHV Troy-Bilt engine packs enough power to turn over large amounts of tough soil
  • Just 1-hand operation lets you guide your Troy-Bilt tiller with literally 1-hand, because the machine is engineered to be well-balanced and easy to control, it does the work not you
  • Counter- rotating tines are best for breaking new ground and power through hard-packed challenging soils
  • Power reverse helps you back out of tight corners and dense soil
  • Larger front bumper provides extra protection from accidental damage to landscaping or the engine
  • Gear-drive transmission with 1 forward speed helps keep tiller moving through soil
  • Wider 1 in. handles improve stability and handling
  • Adjust handle height quickly, in the garden, with no tools required
  • Ergonomically designed depth stake handle makes it easier to adjust tilling depth and is more comfortable to use
  • 13 in. agricultural tires enhance traction and maneuverability
  • Addition to gardening, tillers can also aid in prepping areas for seeding, mixing compost in the pile or mixing compost into your soil
  • Limited-lifetime warranty on the transmission, including all gears, shafts and housings, against defects in material and workmanship for the life of the tiller (to the original purchaser only)
  • 2-year limited warranty
  • Some assembly required upon delivery
  • California residents

Chances are, the reverse cable isn't adjusted tightly enough.

Is this suitable to start an acre sized garden on new hard ground?

Any walk-behind tiller is going to take a while to do a full acre ( almost 43000 square feet). You are moving a lot slower than a walking pace, say 1 mile per hour, or covering a little over 5000 square feet an hour for a single pass with some overlap of lanes. For new ground that has a grass/weed cover, I would allow 1 to 2 hours per 1000 square feet with this tiller to really chop up the vegetative cover and till down to max tiller depth...or 45 to 90 hours of tilling in round numbers to break in a new acre. An acre of new ground is really a job for a tractor with a plow, followed by a tractor pulled disc or tiller. But then, 43000 square feet is a lot of garden to plant, fertilize, weed, water, pest control, harvest, and process the harvest without production tools for each step.

This item is far from the original Troy-Bilt quality. My old 1993 TroyBilt Pony has lasted me since I bought it. That machine has gear problems but there is no replacement since TroyBilt was sold to MTD. The Bronco sounds good on paper. The problems I have are: (1) there is no speed control on the handle bars, (2) the machine will not move unless it is running. You can't back it out a short distance before starting it. (3) the depth of cut is impossible to operate. It appears frozen in one position-deep cut! Perhaps this may be due to how the crate was delivered. Thrown from the back of the delivery truck is not the way to create more business. (Pictures upon request) (4) The counter rotating tines are not an asset. The resulting tilled area is not smooth compared to my old 1993 Pony. On balance I'm sorry I ever bought this machine.

My son has the exact tiller, and I have used it several times. When it came time for me to purchase another tiller, this is exactly what I wanted. It is easy to start, handle on rough terrain, and I love the reverse option. Mine came in a crate, as I bought it out of season, very easy to assemble, and immediately started for the first time, once it was all ready to go. By far the best option in garden tillers

Ease of Use
My husband bought me this tiller in March, I love it!!! It is easy for me to use and it is a work horse. My favorite feature is the reverse! Better than a diamond ring, best present he's bought for me in a long time. He knows I love my garden and now it is so much easier to do with my Troy Bilt Super Bronco Tiller!

We had a Troybuilt horse that we kept going for almost 40 yrs. We really like the counter rotating feature on this new tiller because it makes the operation much more stable. Our old tiller could break through anything but was constantly jumping ahead and difficult to hold back. We’re banking on Troy built quality to get years out of this lighter model.
