What is the lowest horizontal height can this lift achieve. If one were to remove the legs and the drywall support, what would the length of the unit fully closed be. This is for a project other than dry wall. Is the leg support area part of the lifting area, If one would cut off that section of the leg support, would the unit still function? Trying to find something that is around 34" in height and can extend to around 7 to 8 feet. Thanks
Asked by: Kameljoe21
I would say minimum height in horizontal position is about 3 and 1/2 feet. I would not suggest modifying it in the least as removing the legs would cause the destabilization of the lift. This is designed to lift sheets of wood or drywall into place on walls or ceiling, cutting any part of it makes it a nonworking piece of machinery.

You have to assemble it as it slides together and can be easily taken apart to store or transport

Will this hoist work on a slanted ceiling such as a shed?

Asked by: window911
If the panels being installed are 8' along of the horizontal, then this will work as designed. if you want the 8' dimension to be along the vertical, read my review, and consider the mods I made to make that work.

Customer Reviews

Professional Drywall and Panel Hoist is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 114.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for the price It's ok. You will need to rig it if you are trying to install vertical panels or it will tip over from being top heavy. You will also need to grease the cable/wheel, as it will start to jam up after about 30 panels. It says the weight holds up to 150 lbs, but the mechanism doesn't lower all the way to the floor, so you will still need to lift and balance panels up to the hooks about 4' off of the ground. I was installing 90 lb slatwall panels, it it was pretty difficult just getting the panels up to the holding hooks. Also, the hooks are not locked in place, and if you're not careful and bump the hooks, they will push in and your panel will fall to the ground. Like I said, with some rigging (if you're handy enough) it will do the job, but it could certainly use some design improvements.

Hanging drywall on a ceiling is a painful endeavor without this. Now I can hang ceiling drywall by myself. No burning arms, much less swearing. The instructions are pretty vague, but it's not too tough to figure out how it goes together. I watched some youtube videos to see how it worked. I haven't tried walls yet, but it should work for the upper row. The packaging was a little damaged when it was delivered, but everything inside was ok. The wire on the winch slips a little when you crank it up, other than that it works really good.

This product worked exactly as I hoped it would - allowing me to cover ceiling by myself. I was installing 4x8 sheets of drywall. The device is a bit large but as long as I allowed for that it worked very well. And I quickly learned how to get nearly positioned and then crank the remainder to "lock" it in place allowing me to install screws. I wish I had this when I did the living room. Storage proved convenient as the unit "breaks down" to 3 reasonable size components. I would recommend this for anyone who has a need to install a ceiling - even if they have helpers. While the price may seem excessive over renting I learned that many of the rental units have issues/broken so having a device that works as desired was very helpful. I would also suggest this allowed me to install the ceiling over a couple of days. While I may have been able to accomplish in one day it would have been one killer day to accommodate the rental.

Mine worked as well as the much more expensive rental. I was going to sell it once I was done with my project, but decided not; it's worth keeping. For the money, perfect.

The instructions on not great, and like others have mentioned, as you're cranking it up, it makes a loud noise and drops an inch or so once, but you get used to that. It's great overall. Better than renting in my opinion. I'll use it a few times and then probably sell it.

It took a few minutes to figure out how to assemble it. But it was easy to move about and easy to break down when I finished.
