Can you get extentions to make it longer?
Asked by: Jm
I don't know the answer to that question, sorry. We were concerned when we first got it that it wasn't long enough. However, if it were longer, it might be harder to manage. Think about the motion needed to raise it as far as it will go, then pull it back towards the ground. You want the motion smooth to not waste energy. What we found was that we had big enough snow piles around the house that the next day (after the snow had crusted up a bit that night) we could stand on the snow piles and reach another couple of feet of snow that remained on the roof.

i love this roof rake, but the handle often freezes and makes it impossible to extend or collapse without thawing it with my hairdryer. is there anything i can spray on it...like silicone or wd 40 that won't make a mess on my gloves? i actually bent the metal support trying to collapse the rake. other than that it works great!
Asked by: emanon
Didn't experience this issue at all. If you put the lubrication on the sliding part only and not the main handle your gloves shouldn't get dirty. Would probably use WD 40 if I was going to use anything.

I was a little nervous to get this after reading some of the reviews but I was desperate to get the snow off my solar panels before the next storm hits tonight! Once I got the snow off the roof that was below the panels. the snow just came sliding right off the panels. Awesome! Then all I had to do was clear the roof eaves again. I am soooooo happy with this rake. The assembly was very simple. The snow was wet and heavy, but the rake cut right through it and did its job. I think people may be losing the bolts on the first use because they weren't tightened down enough, I used a 1/2 socket wrench to tighten them and got them MUCH tighter than I did with just a wrench. I love the way the handle telescopes out and snaps into place. The buttons are big and easy to push when you have mittens on, too! I have only used this once but I am very pleased. It seems very sturdy although it's a bit unwieldy being 17' long but I got the hang of it quickly. Start from the bottom of the roof and work up. Don't try to take all the snow all at once. Watch out for avalanches! Once the snow got cleared toward the edge of the roof, the snow above broke loose and came sliding down hard! Cover your shrubs first if they are in the way of the snow slide, too! I am very pleased with the performance of this rake and value for the money.

I like that it telescopes as long as it does. However, this is all prior to any snowfall. The real test will be when I have to pull snow off the roof...

The holes in the poles that hold it in the retracted position were deformed and oblong causing the poles to jam when trying to extend it. Looks like during manufacturing they miss-drilled the hole locations and used a punch to elong the holes to get it to lock in the retracted position. Poor quality control! Home Depot was excellent as usual and returned it no questions asked!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from durable roof rake, gets the job done Took about 10 min to put together, looks like its made with quality materials. The telescoping lock mechanism is solid. The rake itself (shovel part at the end) is very sturdy. I had no problems at all raking the roof of my 1-story ranch, which I was able to rake the bottom 5-6 feet entirely from the ground. The only improvement possible is to add wheels to keep an offset from the shingles. But as long as you're not slamming it onto your roof, they really aren't necessary. I picked this up the night before a storm hit, and therefore didn't get a chance to shop around much. After using it, I have no regrets whatsoever, and would recommend this to anyone

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easier to Use Than I Anticipated Very simple to assemble with a 1/2-inch socket and a wrench (or two 1/2-inch sockets). Took less than 10 minutes. (Hint: the two support bars have a specific way they should be attached. It's easy to tell the correct way, so place them by hand first.) The telescoping feature is fantastic. The buttons are large, making them easy to use while wearing gloves. Smart move by the designer. The shaft is an oval which gives it strength. This keeps the pole from bending, essentially making the rake longer than one with a lot of give. Another nice touch is the course texture on the entire outside, lower shaft. The coating makes it really easy to grip and handle. I was very impressed. I pulled the snow off the front of my cape (about 35 feet) in less than 45 minutes, and that includes dealing with stairs, uneven ground and my compulsion for an absolutely clear roof. The price is about what seems to be normal for roof rakes, but I'd have to guess this is among the best considering the great design and ease of use.
