Plastic with metal shaft, however it is well design, there is no screw to break around, has worked very well for us the past couple of years

I really like the ergonomic handle on this shovel, too bad the plastic shovel blade is a not up to the task of shoveling. After shoveling our deck from two big snows the shovel blade cracked at the base of where the handle attaches. I didn't realize this was a disposable shovel and according to the Home Depot website there is no warranty. My bad for thinking something like this would last any period of time. This may be fine for light shoveling but not when you get a good 8-10 inches of snow. This handle with a more durable shovel blade would be nice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great shovel for a bad back! i've had back problems for years, and shoveling always poses a problem. I got this shovel a month ago (i'm pretty sure this is the same one i got in the store - the one with the handle that curves down..hard to tell from the pic, but the descriptions seems to indicate it is) and was finally able to test it out last night after we got 3" here in VA. I'm happy to report that it did great! I was able to push the snow easily and even lifting it up to toss it aside was easy. after doing a 2 car driveway, a walkway, sidewalk in front of the house, and 3 parking spaces on the street (that had some plowed snow), my back was not at all sore. Great product! now we'll just see how well the edge/tip lasts - that's one of my other complaints on typical shovels.

The plastic edge that allows it to be used on decks is good (and why I bought it), but it makes the shovel edge thick and not able to clear the surface as smooth as other shovels we have. It did allow me to clear my deck without scratching the Trex decking so I am happy with that aspect of the shovel. I don't feel that the ergonomic design of the handle really provide that much overall benefit. While this is a good product, I reserve my recommendations for "great" products and so i would not be recommending it. I have used this in only two snowstorms, but I think it is enough time to judge the product. I cannot speak to its durability over time which would be another factor I would add to my consideration relative to recommending it. I am tall (6-4-1/2") and the shovel handle is not quite long enough to be ideal for me.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from blade is not replaceable Good shovel for all the reasons cited by other users. However, the blade which makes contact with the ground is made of plastic and is screwed on with Philips head screws. It wears out rapidly. I contacted the True Temper manufacturer to see if they made and sold just the removeable blade. They do not! The customer service rep said you have to buy a whole new shovel. I call this planned obsolescence. Hey Home Depot -- tell them to make replacement blades for your customers and sell them at your stores.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good shovel I live in NJ and I bought this about a month ago after we got hit with our first bout of snow in December. I have 2 other snow shovels but after shoveling with them I was pretty tired by the time I finally finished my driveway, which spans across the length of the block and attaches to an alley. I must say I really like this shovel as I wasn't at all as fatigued as the first time and I was able to shovel the driveway faster. My only gripe with it is that it's all plastic and if you try and chip away at some ice or hard snow it will just bounce off. I have an aluminum shovel that i keep with me for that purpose. Maybe if that wear tip was metal it would help but, all in all I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

I picked up this shovel after reading a favorable review in the New York Times. Magically, it hasn't snowed since! It looks and feels like it'll work just fine, but in December and now well into January there has been no snow in NW Indiana, which is pretty odd, but I'll take it!
