Will it warp after time from steam? Wanting to install in a small bathroom that's not well ventil...

Asked by Slim April 13, 2021

Answer

Hello Slim, Due to the natural characteristics of wood, some cupping and warping may occur, especially if used in a moist environment. We suggest keeping the bathroom door open after showering/bathing to allow the moisture escape.

Difference in color

Asked by Shelley April 2, 2021

Answer

Hello Shelley, Really sorry to hear that the colors are not more consistent. We agree that adding a bit of paint might be the least amount of work to get the boards to appear as you'd like. Touch up stain is intended for small areas only. i. e. cut ends or nail holes; however, we have heard from other customers that they had to change their board colors with the touch-up paint or were purchasing paint just in case the color were to need refreshing. This should do the trick. (Due to the proprietary coating process, exact color match is not guaranteed.) You will need Behr 8 oz. touch-up wood stain: base ST103 / 8 oz. (CLRNT 384th, BL 22, CL 5, FL 2.5, KXL 1.5). A printable chart is available within the boxed-off Info & Guides section of the product page. Best of luck on this project!

Answer

Pete, Your location is not shared with us, so we don't have any information about what your particular stores carries or not. What we can suggest, though, is that you contact the Home Depot that you frequent to see if a special order from the manufacturer can be made and also to inquire about the status of the dark brown shiplap. Is it still sold elsewhere? Is there a possibility of a transfer from another store? If all else fails, you can paint the shiplap, although we know that one of the benefits of buying this product is that it requires no preparation. For a printable color chart, go to the Replacement Part List located within the boxed-off Info & Guides section on the right-hand side of the product page. It's arranged better than this, but for quick reference, here's that same information: Behr 8 oz. touch-up wood stain: base ST103 / 8 oz. (CLRNT 384th, BL 22, CL 5, FL 2.5, KXL 1.5). Best of luck to you in finding that shiplap.

Is this good to use for an outside siding?

Asked by Ronburgundy April 1, 2021
1
Answer

Hi Ronburgundy, This wood should not be used in exterior applications. Some customers choose to do this, though, but it seems that they limit the use to protected locations, such as the ceiling of a covered porch or wall of a veranda - both areas that should stay dry and safe. If you do decide to do this, too, we suggest that you seal it with a wood protector. For more information on this product - including installation procedure, click the boxed-off Info & Guides section on the product page.

What paint match can I use to touch up the charcoal color?

Can this be used on a outdoor porch roof?

Asked by Tiffany March 12, 2021

Answers

Hi Tiffany, If you are referring to using the shiplap on the ceiling of an enclosed porch (such as a screened-off porch or another protected area, you might see in some of the product images, or those of the shiplap in other colors, that people have posted the use of the product in similarly-protected areas. We do not recommend this as the wood should not be around excess moisture.

do I have to glue this product or is it ok to put the nails on the face of the wood to install it

Asked by LilJ March 6, 2021
1
Answer

Hi LilJ, According to the directions, Nail directly to the wall framing when installing in a horizontal orientation. For applications where vertical orientation is desired, full-length furring strips must be installed 24 inches on center. Use standard or painted trim nails (15 or 16 gauge). Fastener length should be long enough for 1 1/4"-1 1/2" of penetration into solid wood. Nail through the top flange. A second nail should be placed through the bottom face of the board, approximately 1" from the bottom edge (ensuring not to nail through overlapping pieces). When installing shiplap over plaster or hardboard, the walls need to be in moderately good condition. Construction adhesive is usually the easiest and fastest way to install wood shiplap over drywall, plaster, hardboard and even old shiplap. If you choose to nail through the face of the wood, you might consider having a batch of touch-up paint on hand to hide where the nail head entered.

Not all White
I love the looks of this. However after getting our walls half done we noticed that it’s not all white. It’s really disappointing. Now we have some white and the rest of the white is yellow looking. And it was ordered all at the same time as suggested

The boards are solid and stain really well! They are going to look amazing when I get them up! They were of a different cut (rougher) than the 4ft boards I bought from this company, so I'm having to sand them down before staining! But the product is great!

I love this stuff, it does have some imperfections but that is what gives it that farm house look. There were a few pieces that I used at the bottom or on the end where I could cut that area out. I also used screws and that helped with any that were a little warped, they hide under the lap and you don't see them. I would definitely buy them again. I also used some of my scraps with a stained glass piece and a barn door cabinet slide to hide an eyesore electrical panel in this bedroom. Turned out awesome, I think.

We got the UFP Edge boards along with trim installed in our living & dining areas. They look good, but there are quite a few boards popping out. The installer said it's because the boards are uneven and not finished well and that more may pop up over time. Very disappointed that the project didn't turn out quite as expected. If there's a way to fix these boards and prevent more from popping out, would be interested to know.

I ordered these online so I did not get to see the quality before purchasing. If you are looking for a VERY RUSTIC look then you may be ok with these. Many of the boards are so warped/crooked that I couldn't use them, so I had to purchase an extra box to finish the job. If I hadn't just started to hang them right out of the box, and I wasn't so time-restricted (working my real job full time), I would have returned them. I gave it 2 stars because the overall look is ok but I am disappointed that I didn't return and choose something else.

Recommend this product. It is a bit pricey but having the boards already painted and distressed made it worth while. Bought 6 packs and only had one board with a crack in the corner. I was able to work around that. We did a color match at Home Depot and bought a sampler of paint to touch up end grain cuts that appeared or any minor imperfections. Love the outcome.
