can you use drywall joint compound for the seam instead of mortar?

Asked by HD January 16, 2021

Answer

Since I was using this on interior bathroom walls, and not a shower wall, I used joint compound over top of seam tape. Joint compound is much easier to sand, and the finish is smoother.

Do not use in showers without waterproofing it!!
This board becomes soggy and wicks water... Holds water like a sponge!! If using in showers be sure to paint everything with a liquid waterproofing paint or it will fall apart!

Very easy to work with, does not crumble or fall apart like cement boards. You can put a screw near the edge and not have an issue with it breaking out. Scores and snaps easy, but I still prefer to cut on my large table saw to get perfect edges. Honestly I can't think of any reason not to use this product and the price is right!
