Joint Compound is an exceptionally lightweight compound for all drywall finishing steps. It provides overall high performance, as well as superior working qualities and good open time. It offers excellent bond over bead, trim and fastener concealments.

USG ULTRALIGHT JOINT COMPOUND
Excellent product. After using all-purpose compound for taping, I used the ultralight compound for all my joint work and skim coating for a level 5 finish.

This product is the best for amateur fixer, whi want to smooth a wall. Cover once, dry for a day, then once again (thin coat) to eliminate sanding and any powder film. Then paint after another day of drying.

Ready to use from the bucket. Good consistency for easy application. No additional thinning required unless maybe you are doing skim coat.
Since 4.5 gallons is a bit much to drag around I scoop a bunch into a 3.5 quart bucket from previous jobs and just carry that light one up and down the ladder.

Best tape adhesion of any USG bucket mud I've tried. Almost as good as Quick Set or DuraBond.
Note the way the different compounds held the paper tape in the test pictured. Some peeled away clean in spots (not good) and others held so well that the tape actually delaminated meaning perfect adhesion. Light Green Ultralightweight was the best of bucket muds in my test. Quick Set Light is one of the few with perfect adhesion. USG DuraBond also has perfect adhesion in this test. Based on this, I would trust Ultralightweight for taping over most other compounds if I could not use DuraBond or Quick Set due to using automatic taping tools or some other reason. ProForm Black fails this test as does their Blue. Unfortunately, my phone is only allowing one photo. I'm not able to post the proform test picture for comparison. It will be in my proform quick set reviews.
