Knotty door!
Here is the thing, I was building doors and it was my desire to have an appearance that was knotty. My only requirement was knotty BUT STRAIGHT. Fortunately for me they were both. If you are looking for clear wood, this is not for you. The wood measured as listed and was consistent throughout. Easy to work with and the end result was something we were very pleased with. If you are looking for something clear, these most likely aren't the boards you are looking for.

never buy wood online
Most of the wood products HD has are fairly decent but you have to sort through the imperfect wood to find what you need that is decent shape. Of course if you order online they will just pick whatever is laying on top and that's what you get. I had three pieces of 1x3 that were so twisted warped and bowed that they were essentially useless.

Great Craft Lumber
Furring strips are not meant for finish work. They are meant for frame support or roofing. Keeping this in mind the wood is not exactly straight. My local store had plenty of bundles though so I just took a little care in selection and left the store with plenty of straight enough pieces to do the job (used as molding to cover the ugly drywall/foundation joint in my garage). The price cant be beat. Also, keep in mind, boards are NEVER the same size as their measurements. The measurements are the size BEFORE being milled so all boards are smaller than their measurements. A 2x4-inch stud, for example, actually measures about 1 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches. Anyways this was great cheap lumber for my purposes. Could also be used very well for crafts or the like. I would also not recommend these for staining because they are made from different types of trees so will not stain uniformly if you are using more than one strip. If you must use them to stain get strips from the same bundle. If you need something dead straight don't get these, but you will pay almost 3x more for the nest cheapest thing. Wood is not just wood - choose the lumber that is best for your project and budget. These worked great for mine.

    Good Product
The integrity of the wood stood up when I drilled nails in to secure it for a closet shelf.

      5/8 inch, NOT 3/4 inch.
Bought several at my local HD to use with 3/4 inch XPS foam insulation boards Got them home and all of them were 5/8 inch thick, not 3/4 inch. I returned them and checked out the rest of ones on the shelf and all of them are 5/8 inch. The description clearly states that these 1 x 3's are 0.75 inch thick, but they are actually 0.625 inch thick.

        Alternate Use for Furring Strips
We purchase this particular product in bulk: 180 -200 pieces every month. We use this product to construct target frames for use on our pistol ranges. The price of these have steadily soared and the quality has slowly gone down hill. They are rarely straight, full of staples and knots, and twisted. We accept the products imperfections, but the price should remain a bit more stable for a longer period of time.

        Terrible Quality
Bought quite a lot of this lumber to use as a rustic looking trim molding for a sun room because it was cheap. Being cheap is no excuse for the condition the Canton, GA store stocked this. 90% were damaged excessively. I was 2 boards short and had to buy more. Even being under $2.00 each the poor condition made me ask for a discount because of the damage on almost every piece. Glad I'm done and won't need any more of this junk lumber!!
