Product Details

Every piece meets the highest grading standards for strength and appearance. This lumber is for a wide range of uses from framing of houses to basic interior finishing applications. Boards can also be used for carpentry, hobbies, furniture, shelving, and general finish work. The wood has straight grain and has uniform texture. It has low shrinkage and is worked very easily by hand and machine tools. The product is easy to glue and has good nailing and screw holding properties. The paint retention properties are good and it is fairly easily treated with preservatives.

    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot, Sid. These appearance boards are only carried in select Home Depot stores and not online. You will need to speak with a specialist in your local store to go over what trimming options are available. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future. Thank you for shopping Home Depot.

    not clear pine
This lumber is meant for simple building. It is not a finish lumber such as clear pine. If you would like to stain this type of wood you will need to use a pre-stain conditioner to reduce the blotching effect. It makes a good paint grade material if you use a shellac based primer over the knots to reduce bleed through. I found many good boards with minimal knots, slight wane and bow. if you are a true craftsperson you can find the clean parts of the board and cut around the knots to get a clean piece at half the cost of the premium boards.

    Poor Quality
I could not find a straight or unbroken piece in the entire store. It may work well to build a campfire, if you don't mind paying over 75 cents per foot for firewood.

    NOT Pine? Stains weird
I got some "pine" boards for cabinets and shelves, various widths. Nice BUT they are not pine, must be some rain forest tree, is really soft like balsa wood almost. Knots don't bother me. Stains weird and blotchy, can look uniform before staining then it absorbs stain differently all over and light or dark spots when wiped. Had the same problem with depot "pine" 6-panel doors made in south America somewhere. Good wood but soft and stains weird. You might like it that way. Try some scrap with stain before going nuts on a big project.

lots of knots/whole new meaning for S4S
Great for kindling wood. Knots galore and the surface of the material was definitely not smooth. The lumber must have chattered in the mill because the surface was filled with waves running the full width (crosswise) of the boards. Not usable for quality work.
