Designed for the toughest tasks, this Reacher is ideal for outdoor use. Steel teeth with reinforced rubber give the jaws extra strength and prevent items from slipping. The ergonomic grip provides smooth, trigger-pull action to grab items low or high. A comfort-grip neoprene sleeve gives extra support for two-handed lifting of heavy objects.

Answer This Question
A:Â Thank you for your inquiry. Water will not hurt the unit however, extended use in water could result in rust over a period of time because the jaws do include metal teeth.

This reacher is about 43 inches long and comes with a very sturdy rubber grip on the end.
This is not your Grandma's reacher! This can pick up soda cans, claw at things at high shelving, or pick up the smallest item on the ground without ever bending over.
I could totally see this being used by people who have arthritic shoulder joints, or people who just want to get stuff down from garage beams that are high up there. I can also see it being use by trash collectors who don't want to bend over to pick stuff up. It has excellent grip!
And with it being so long (and I stand over 6 feet tall), you don't ever have to bend over.
It also comes with a foam grip in the middle of the pole. This is for heavier objects. On the display card that comes with the pole it shows picking up a log. While I think this is a bit far fetched, and don't see people doing that, it really does help you lift heavier objects or give you a sturdier grip on items that you may need to get down from rafters. I know we have a bag of duck decoys in the garage that weighs a good 25lbs, and this was able to get the strap off its hook and take the bag down without having to get on a step stool.
I really like it. It is kind of one of those items that you don't think you need until you have one...and then when you have one, you wonder why you did not get something like that sooner!
The professional Unger heavy duty rugged reacher. They claim it’s built for tough tasks. It’s anything but. This unit without ratcheting clamp has a steel plate riveted to rubber lined clamp. The size of the opening is adequate for picking up small twigs and branches from the yard or pulling down a tree limb that you just can’t reach but that’s about the limits for this unit. You can pick up paper trash etc with it. It’s handy for the three foot extended reach it will give you. It has a padded piece midway of the bar for two handed stability. The steel teeth that are riveted on the clamp and don’t even reach beyond the gripping rubber. There is a 360 swivel for the clamp which adds to the comfort of the pick up. Just don’t think that you will be able to use this for heavy log or debris pick up. With all things considered this is a handy tool to add to your work shed.

This rugged reacher is one fantastic tool!
This reacher is heavy duty tool has stainless steel reinforcement on the jaws, you can pick up small logs, great for reaching for items that are high on the shelf, such as oil cans etc. It has an easy grip foam padded area x 2 on shaft for the other hand while squeezing the trigger. I have been looking for something to grab the large branches in the yard while on my riding lawnmower, instead of having to get off my rider all the time and this Rugged Reacher is perfect for the job!!!!

Unger Rugged Reacher is a great tool to keep around the house. I find myself looking for more ways to use it, and it never disappoints!
The pistol grip is very comfortable and has a top end that's shaped like a viper's hood, so it will gently slide your hand into the best grip position. The palm side is covered with a tacky rubberized pad that doesn't slip, even when your hands are wet.
There's a foam rubber pad about midway down the shaft to assist with two handed use. I thought it was a nice little addition to give a user more traction.
Whole thing is pretty light weight for the amount of pressure you can apply on the jaw end.
The jaws are pretty strong, and I'm pleased with the design. The open end of the jaws feature thick rubber pads that feel like the sole of a good work shoe; they will stick to just about anything. Farther back, the jaws have a grippy rubber surround that's well-padded and flexible so it won't damage whatever you're lifting.
At the rear of the jaws, there are some inset serrated metal teeth that will only engage with the item being grabbed when you squeeze the trigger hard. These teeth are dull at the end, but offer enough reinforcement to grab a hold of rougher items (think: tree branches). As you squeeze, the rubber padding compresses just enough to stick the ends of the teeth out and make contact with whatever you're grabbing.
Jaws can also be rotated 360 degrees to desired angle relative to the handle, so you're not stuck in one position. I sat down and rotated the jaws counter clockwise about fifty times, and nothing seemed to loosen up or impact performance. I have since allayed my fear that the Reacher will fall apart if twisted around too much.
There's also a little hanger hole up by the handle, so you could hang this up in a pantry for easy access to top shelves. Sure beats having to dance around a step stool. The hanger hole is centered well, so the Reacher doesn't hang at an odd angle. Neat!

This is a new grabber product from Unger, a company that I have known mostly for their professional window washing tools that I have owned and used for years. I have another Unger grabber tool that is for lighter duty that has held up well for mostly yard use. This grabber is obviously designed to grab and pick up larger objects than my older grabber tool. The jaws for this grabber open a full 5 inches and are equipped with stainless steel teeth that are just beyond riveted-in rubber grabber teeth. That design works well to pick up fairly heavy objects, whether rough or smooth, without them slipping out of the jaws. This grabber has an effective reach and grab of about 40 inches. The squeeze trigger and handle are comfortable to use. A softer cushioned area on the shaft below the handle provides a comfortable grip surface for my other hand to assist with picking up and moving heavier objects. Trying it out, I easily grabbed and picked up a 3-1/2 pound rock as well as a 3-pound full quart can of paint without either of them slipping from my grip. In addition to picking up fairly large objects, I found that the rubber leading edge of the jaws have such good fit that I could grab and pick up a dime that was lying flat on our smooth-surface kitchen floor. I am finding this to be a handy tool for pickup fairly heavy litter thrown out of vehicles that pass by our property. As I have arthritis in my back, it is a great helper to limit the amount of bending that I need to do to maintain our property when on foot. I installed a bracket system to clamp this tool to my riding mower. I have used this grabber to pick up trash items without the need to stop the mower blade system and get off of the mower. This is a handy addition to my yard work tool collection.

I got this to move the feed bowls for the sheep so I would not have to go inside the fence since my ram and I have different opinions on who is allowed in the yard. This is different than the other reacher you can turn the grabber from vertical to horizontal. The rubber pads at the end are heavy duty. There is a picture on the package showing lifting logs with it. So my son had to try it and he did pick up some small logs. There is a hole at the top of the handle so you can hang it.

I was very impressed with the look when I first received this UNGER Rugged Reacher. The powerful steel jaws with reinforced rubber provide extra support for lifting heavy and odd-shaped items. The pistol grip gives you good control over the reacher and a neoprene sleeve half way down the shaft of the reacher allows you a comfortable 2 handed grip for heavier objects. The head rotates to pick items up at any angle which helps to get into tight spots. The rugged reacher is a heavy duty version of the Unger Nifty Nabber reacher tool with a few added features. I have used my Rugged Reacher to pick up scrap pieces of trex decking and other materials from a project. I have also used it to pick up branches from tree that fell during high wind rain storm. The grip trigger I believe should be made similar to the trigger on a spray nozzle for a stronger grip on heavier items picked up with reacher and reacher should be made a little lighter.

This reacher is by far the best one I have ever used. It has many features other similar reachers don't have. First it has pinchers and round gripping dodads that allow you to pick up different shaped objects. The gripping head rotates 1/4 turn to better access different items. The hand grip in the middle of the pole allows comfortable 2 hand operation. Works like a charm.
