How do you roll the news papers up in it?

Asked by: Kimberley
you start out folding a small section of paper in half then you keep adding a section rotating the fold of the paper each side to keep the log even I do this about 12 times. I use frame wire to hold the log together then once the wire is secure on the log turn the handle the opposite direction to loosen the log if it don't pull out easy keep turning it to loosen the log

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Read these reviews and then purchase I read all the Home Depot reviews about this product before purchasing it and purchased it anyway. The directions for putting it together were not much help but with a little studying of the parts and the picture, I had no trouble. Except for one of the bolts to hold the cross bars on the frame was the wrong size but instead of going out to find a replacement, I rolled a small bit of electricians tape on the end of the bar which is keeping it in place fine. As for rolling up the newspaper, I recommend not putting the end of the newspaper into the slit on the center bar. Rather, I sprayed a bit of water from a plant spritzer onto the newspaper which helped it stick to itself, and got the roll going. Not a lot, just a spritz, then slid the top of the next piece of paper under the flap, which caught fine. If it got too dry, I just spritzed it again. And don't roll too tight so you'll be able to get it to pull off the bar. With a little patience and practice, one person is well able to use this. And the rolls smolder well in small wood fires, great for marshmallow roasting. I'm happy with my purchase.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from do not recommend this It took three adults to figure out how to put this together (due to poor instructions). After we got it together, between the three of us again, we could not get it to work (putting newspapers in). Via construction of product (even IF it did work) is not worth the money. Plan to return it. (I hate writing bad reviews, but I felt this needed to be written).

Once I got it put together, it was very wobbly, but I thought I could work with that. The very first and only log that I rolled was a disaster. The first problem I had was turning the handle. It came apart unless I kept the area with the screw in the area that was covered. Then it was very hard to turn. I gave up adding paper when the log was the size of the curved area. The completed log was very hard to get off of the rod. When I finally got it off, the rod was twisted. I returned it and will not try another log roller.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Newspaper log roller This was bought for my husband for Christmas. It is poor quality. He is a carpenter/millwright by trade. His plan---he is going to redesign this to make it a better product. To bad the manufacturer did take the time to put quality parts in the first place. It's so flimsy and will break very soon. When he gets done rebuilding this it will be top quality.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good I just got the log roller assembled, and took a different approach than the bare-bones directions supplied with it. Trying to get the first sheet of newspaper started is a challenge, I guest practice will make perfect.
