Classic Retro 1.2 cu. ft. 30" Low Profile Over-the-Range Microwave-Marshmallow White, 400 CFM

This is a great Microwave!! It was actually pretty easy to install and it looks amazing!! I might have to paint my entire kitchen just to make it match. I love retro kitchen appliances and might purchase the entire collection since I am very happy with it. The one thing to keep in mind is that it very deep therefore in my case it sticks out in comparison to the cabinets, if you are using this for a new build that shouldn’t be an issue as you can make sure your cabinets are deep enough to prevent this. In my case I will just live this it since it’s so beautiful!

This was my first over stove microwave installation. I had to remove an older unit which resulted in having to patch some holes where the old unit hanging bracket attached. Moving the stove out, made hanging the new unit much easier. Also a 2”x6” laid across the counter tops on each side of stove opening provided a place to set the new microwave and run the power cord. Regarding the Classic microwave: the look is indeed classic and a nice appearance change from typical microwaves. It looks great in my 1950s house with a sort of ‘57 Chevy vibe. It’s advertised as a 1.2 cu ft microwave. The design makes it wider and not as high inside as other microwaves I have seen. It’s still has plenty of room for anything typical that one would put in a microwave and might even be better for large dinner plates. The control panel in the door makes the door really wide (the entire 30” width of the microwave). It’s well balanced and easy to open. One concern may be that the user or someone else in the cook space could hit their head on the door when it’s open. This typically couldn’t happen with a microwave door that doesn’t swing out beyond the stove top. Last comment (see photo) the “Classic” brand emblem on the front and center of the microwave is crooked! The manufacturer went to great pains to design foam protective packaging just to protect this fancy cast emblem- and it’s crooked! Of course, I was not aware of this fact until I pulled off said packing material as the final step in a 2-3 hour installation process. If I had not invested so much labor in installing the microwave- I would have uninstalled it. The emblem is right at eye level, shiny chrome finish and meant to catch one’s eye. I plan to inquire if the manufacturer has a solution for this but won’t try to adjust the crooked emblem until I learn more.

Normally I hate negative reviews based on receiving a damaged product in shipping, but this one had multiple areas of damage, and as a Seeds participant, I can't just return it and so far no response from Home Depot; customer service could not even help me. We did give it a test run of a minute of heating water, and it worked. Also, it was not easy to install for our first experience of OTR microwave. We even bought and installed a new cabinet since we only had a shelf over the stove, a cabinet that can withstand 150 lbs. of pull drilled into studs is needed. In our situation, we also need to get a designated electric line installed in the cabinet, so still not able to test the fan and light. I do like the overall style and the white color of the microwave, and someone who really likes retro might enjoy this even more.

We absolutely love this microwave! It is so stylish, functional, and looks beautiful in the basement we are in the process of finishing. Now we might need to get a ‘classic’ refrigerator to go with it! It is heavy and requires two to 3 people to move it and get it in place, but it is absolutely worth it. It was packaged well and had all the essential pieces included.
