I brought my ferns inside for the winter as suggested. They were thriving outside but inside they are dying. Any suggestions?

They're probably not getting enough light inside or too much water. Plants dry out more quickly outside especially if they are getting sunlight.

Hi Andrea, The plants will need sometime to acclimate to the new conditions they have introduced to. Please ensure the kimberly fern received adequate bright light and is watered with the same schedule as it was outside. If you need any more help please reach out to us via email at questions@unitednursery.com, or phone through text or by calling us at 305-747-1064. Best regards, Nestor

I bring mine in for the winter. I live in zone 8 too. I lost a fern once leaving it outside in winter.Check for hearty ferns that can take the winter.

Can this take a lot of sun?

Kimberly ferns are more forgiving about receiving a lot of sun than other ferns, provided they stay very well watered and don't dry out. However, I think they do best when planted somewhere that gets indirect sun so they don't burn.

Can these grow outside and be left outside during the winter?

I live in Zone 5 and it would not survive. However these can be brought indoors and do extremely well.

Extremely pot bound- struggling to survive
I purchased this plant in May of this year. It was large and arrived well packaged. I decided to leave it in the nursery pot for a while to avoid stressing the plant after having been shipped. I noticed that every time I watered the fern, the water would just flow over the top of the pot. Despite a regular watering schedule, the plant was really struggling and seemed to be crowded in the nursery pot. I decided to re-pot it and saw the horror that was its home. The plant was in TWO nursery pots that fit so tightly together that I have to cut the outer pot. I then noticed that the fern was extremely potbound around the inner pot - it started rooting out through the bottom holes and was incredibly wrapped around itself. Roots started reaching over the top of the pot and wrapped around the rims and themselves. The fronds were also growing out over the top and wrapping around. I cannot adequately explain how awful the plant's condition was. I ended up having to cut a lot of the roots to even loosen the plant enough to be able to start working on the pot itself, because the plant and pot literally became one. After I cut the inner pot to get the plant out, there was hardly any soil and the roots were very compacted and tangled and the plant was not able to absorb any water - the water would just slide down the root bunch. I had to use a knife to cut the bottom and slice the roots (watched tutorials on how to do that). Fast forward to now, the plant is really struggling. I feel like it is slowly dying, as it keeps shedding more and more leaves and the fronds are drying out. I do water the plant regularly and it is sitting right next to a window. I am concerned that it will never recover from the stress. I am including a picture of the plant as it looks today. Very sad and scruffy. I do not recommend purchasing from this nursery. How could professionals allow this plant to get so bad and then sell it to someone?

The ferns arrived in excellent condition, as packaging was incredible !! We have had unusual hot weather so they got too much sun one day. I clipped off the burnt frond and they are producing a lot of new ones. Very happy with them.

The ferns arrived in great shape. The packaging was designed in a very clever manner to protect the ferns during shipment. The ferns are actually better than the ones which our local Home Depot received after we received ours.

I ordered two ferns to place at the foot of my front steps. I probably should've ordered these a month earlier to extend my growing season, but I initially tried Boston ferns with poor success and lost some time. I think this spot was just a teeny bit too sunny for their liking, so I turned to Kimberly ferns instead since I knew they could tolerate more light. I will be completely honest - seeing everyone's beautiful, lush photos for the United Nursery Kimberly ferns set an expectation for me that unfortunately fell short when mine arrived. I envisioned receiving a plant that was well-developed, one that I could drop into my planter and enjoy immediately. Although the ferns I received were perfectly packaged, shipped fast, and appeared exceptionally healthy, they were also kind of... small? Underwhelming? They look kind of puny compared to a lot of the photos others have shared, and I'm wondering if maybe I just ordered them too late in the season. They're not very tall, and they don't have that same flattering 'fanning' impression other ferns pictured seem to show in the photos. I'm glad they're hearty and healthy, and I'm sure they'll eventually grow nice and large, but I probably won't be able to overwinter these in my house which means the window of time I'll get to enjoy them at their fullest won't be as long as I hoped. I will still order them again next year, and maybe a month earlier if that means receiving something fuller. Again, the fern itself seems very healthy, and the packaging was impeccable! I just wish they looked more like everyone else's.

Absolutely beautiful, full and lush! Came more quickly than expected. I had to keep them inside for about 3 weeks prior to placing them outside on my deck due to weather conditions. They seem to be adjusting fine after almost a week outside.

Expected 2 Of The Same Plants
I was so excited for these, so that I could put matching ferns on my front porch. One box was almost 2 feet taller than the other meaning they were that much different in height. Also, the pots were different sizes. I tried to prune them to look even and it just doesn’t look right. I understand one might be more mature, but I only ordered 2, not 10. How hard is it to get ones close to the same size. It looks like they gave me Just two of the wrong sizes. Disappointed is an understatement.
