Will this tube/light be dark at night time?

We have family who have a solar tube that is still bright at night and can not be shut off. Is this product specifically only a skylight tube or does it have a light.

CAN THE SKY LIGHT BE CLEANED OF INSECTS?
Asked by: DRAGONLADY
The only insect problem I've had is they get inside the tube (somehow) and fall onto the lens when they die. You have to unscrew the trim ring and carefully remove the 10" glass lens to remove them. This remove/replace is a bother, especially if you have more than one.

Can this be installed in a walkin shower or could there be a problem with moisture?

Asked by: Nathan
Being it is sealed from the environment it should be ok. You may still get condensate on the lower pane since the internal temp of the tube will be that of the attic space as well as radiant heat from the sun. However it is commonly used for dark baths

VELUX 10 in. Sun Tunnel Tubular Skylight with Rigid Tunnel and Low Profile Plastic and Metal Flashing is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 99.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Replaced My Rigid Sun Tunnel with Flexible One I replaced my roof a few months ago and have been a bit disappointed with the flexible sun tunnel. LOVED the rigid tunnel. Wanted to just replace the roof piece, but that wasn't an option. They do corrode, but there should be a replacement part for that. I had to replace the entire system, just for the boot piece. Had a great deal of light in the kitchen, but the flexible connector just doesn't have the same power. I wish I would have insisted the roofer put another rigid sun tunnel in. Also the old one had more of a clear attachment inside and the new one is quite opaque so that dims it more as well. I now have to turn on the lights much more than I used to. Is there a way I can get a clear cover or convert my flexible to a rigid system (it is a straight down shot from my roof to my inside cover)? I would give it a great big 5-star if I didn't have the old one to compare it to. If you have a choice, go with the rigid sun tunnel. Just so disappointed in the flexible one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Happy to have more natural light. We had three sun tunnels installed by a five star installer. Cost of the project was just shy of $5000. Wish I would have investigated a bit more before proceeding. The trim rings allow you to see the four mounting screws. Called customer service and they said someting about white tape to cover the screws. The highest unit is about 15 feet in the air and has about 9 dead bugs in it. Thought these would have been sealed better. I have not removed them yet because now I need to buy a 12 foot step ladder to service this unit. We had a electric light install in another and it is a florescent buld with an odd base connector. The contractor removed an existing can light and tossed the fixture into the attic while using it as a junction box. Not sure I would call that upto code or expected of a five star installer. The trim rings are also difficult to remove as there is not much to grip onto to rotate the ring off.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bugs and dirt Had my 14” Velux flexible tube sun tunnels installed 4 years ago. Now removing popcorn ceiling and thought I would take down to remove bugs but meanwhile insulation has fallen between the glass layers and I can’t get it out. Looks much worse than before. HELP. Hate to think I will have to hire someone to take them out to clean, or to buy replacement glass every time they get dirty. Please tell me how to address this. I see other reviews have same issue but saw no solutions showing. Please help or should I just replace whole thing? In which case I would investigate other sources. I have recommended this product in past but not now.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the light, hate the bugs. Had mine professionally installed by a contractor last year as part of a remodel. Put it in the utility room with no natural light. What a difference! Love how much light it lets in even after sundown. Unfortunately, within a couple of months there were a least a couple dozen dead, squarish bugs about 1/2" long in it. The contractor came back and cleaned them out and checked the installation and said everything was tight. But the bugs just keep accumulating. When I try to twist the trim ring to take it off to clean them out, it won't budge. Afraid I will break it. This sucks because I love the light but the bugs look terrible and are unavoidable when you look at it. So again, based on the performance, this tube is great. But the bugs really bring down the satisfaction. Not being able to easily clean it just compounds the issue.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from lots of welcome light Our 14 inch Sun Tunnels(2) have just been installed, replacing skytubes from another manufacturer that had started to leak. As far we are very pleased and surprised how much more light is available through the VELUX. They brighten an area that receives very little outside light, no windows, and gives the room a different and more inviting look. We are looking forward to many years of bright and trouble-free service.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Shadow in Diffuser I just installed Velux 10 in sun tunnel not understanding why there is a shadow inside the Diffuser. Not very happy with it. It was installed perfectly and diffuser looks like Marble on the inside.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's like having a light on All DAY!! We had our roofer install the Sun Tunnels when he completed our new roof. He had never installed one before but seemed to think it wasn't too difficult. We like the first one so much we had him do two more right away and are now considering two more!! My husband and I comment everyday how wonderful it is to use our windowless bathroom without turning lights on!! I ordered the Sun Tunnel thru Home Depot online and it arrive in a just a couple of days. Pick up was easy. The only reason I listed "Quality" with only four stars is because we have only had them for a short while so I can't attest to how it holds up over time. Believe it or not, the black photo is taken in the same place in the hall as the bath tub shot!! And the light is NOT ON!!! Amazing!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the light. Lights up the whole bathroom This is a great feature and it works great for me, but I need to clean out the debris or bugs in the defuser and am not sure how to get it apart. I actually already broke the outer fascia ring. Please let me know how to get into the defuser to clean it and where to get parts.
