Can the sun to be shorte Can the sun tube be shortened

Asked by: Mikei
Hi Mike. Yes, you can trim down the length of the Sun Tunnel tubing to fit your particular applications needs. With the rigid tubing, you will need sheet metal screws to make those connections between the cut section of tubing to the next piece or elbow. Be sure to cover all screw heads, seams or holes with the included aluminum tape. This will ensure that you create a "dead air" space within the tubing and allow the installation to be energy efficient. If you have the flexible tubing sun tunnel, this material is stretched to the desired length needed and trimmed. This type of tubing is a bit easier to install.

What is the difference between the low profile and regular model? Do you get the same amount of lighting?
Asked by: Jimmy
Hi Jimmy, The pitched flashing and low profile flashing will produce equal amount of light in your home. The rule of thumb is to use the low profile model on a southern roof exposure and the pitched version on all other exposures as the raised dome will capture more light throughout the day. Both styles are good for shingle roofs whereas the pitched flashing is needed for tile roofs.(additional tile flashing is also needed with this application)

how much rigid tunnel pipe is included in each package.
Asked by: boone
Hi Boone. This VELUX Sun Tunnel kit will have 48 inches in total length. Upper and lower elbows are approximately 12 inches long and the center tubing which is 24 inches. If you need additional center tubing to complete your project, those are available in 24 inch sections and can be trimmed to meet your requirements.

Customer Reviews

14 in. SUN TUNNEL Tubular Skylight with Rigid Tunnel, Low Profile Flashing and Solar Powered Night Light is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 40.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Replaced My Rigid Sun Tunnel with Flexible One I replaced my roof a few months ago and have been a bit disappointed with the flexible sun tunnel. LOVED the rigid tunnel. Wanted to just replace the roof piece, but that wasn't an option. They do corrode, but there should be a replacement part for that. I had to replace the entire system, just for the boot piece. Had a great deal of light in the kitchen, but the flexible connector just doesn't have the same power. I wish I would have insisted the roofer put another rigid sun tunnel in. Also the old one had more of a clear attachment inside and the new one is quite opaque so that dims it more as well. I now have to turn on the lights much more than I used to. Is there a way I can get a clear cover or convert my flexible to a rigid system (it is a straight down shot from my roof to my inside cover)? I would give it a great big 5-star if I didn't have the old one to compare it to. If you have a choice, go with the rigid sun tunnel. Just so disappointed in the flexible one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the light, hate the bugs. Had mine professionally installed by a contractor last year as part of a remodel. Put it in the utility room with no natural light. What a difference! Love how much light it lets in even after sundown. Unfortunately, within a couple of months there were a least a couple dozen dead, squarish bugs about 1/2" long in it. The contractor came back and cleaned them out and checked the installation and said everything was tight. But the bugs just keep accumulating. When I try to twist the trim ring to take it off to clean them out, it won't budge. Afraid I will break it. This sucks because I love the light but the bugs look terrible and are unavoidable when you look at it. So again, based on the performance, this tube is great. But the bugs really bring down the satisfaction. Not being able to easily clean it just compounds the issue.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Condensation Having issues of condensation on two 14 inch Sun Tunnels. What is the remedy for this situation?
Date published: 2019-02-19
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not entirely thrilled No doubt the two sun tunnels I had professionally installed add much needed light to a dark kitchen. However, the light projected onto the ceiling lens has a number of "hot spots" and irregularities. It's not a deal-breaker, but it's nothing I've read about or seen in other reviews. The Velux rep looked at them and told me it's not uncommon to get this effect. If I'd known ahead of time, I might have invested in something different. Also, LED lights have not performed as advertised. May be bad batteries--will have to see what happens after they're replaced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sun Tunnel 10 Years and Counting Installed three (TSR 010) 10" Sun Tunnel Skylights about ten years ago and we are about to install a fourth into our galley kitchen space. We have been amazed with the amount of light this product provides our interior space. The best comment was from my father inlaw when we were about to go out to an early dinner which was "Are you going to turn off some of these lights?" We had to explain to him how they work...........fun times. I am starting to notice one of the outside lenses starting to haze over like modern headlight lenses on cars do. How do I go about buying a replacement lens?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I thought I loved our home but wow! I just finished installing our fourth light We started out with two but it's becoming an addiction The difference it has made to our home is astounding I have a construction background but anyone with reasonable skills and YouTube should be able to manage I would recommend this product to anyone that asks

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beam me up, Scotty I love our sun tunnels. And on moonlit nights, you can pretend to be on the starship Enterprise. I do need to know how to clean out the bugs. I say the review on why I am getting the bugs and understand what I need to do to stop the bugs. BUt how do I clean them out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than expected We installed the Sun Tunnel in an interior bathroom on our second floor. It was so easy to install. It is mounted on the north’s side of our roof under a large shade tree and I am amazed at how much light it provides. I continually come upstairs and think someone left the light on in the bathroom. It makes the bathroom better, but also changes the dynamic of the hallway, making it so much more open and inviting.
