Q:Does this require any sort of drain? Does it produce water/condensation?
    by|Oct 7, 2018
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  Hello, if its any of the 1500/2500btu units, it would not require a drainage system to be used. However, to prevent any sort of excess condensation from being created, please ensure the specified requirements for proper hot dissipation and ambient intake are followed. These winemate units cannot be ducted in way, shape or form, and would to either flush up against an external wall or installed with the exhaust side sticking into another room not enclosed with proper ventilation. The 3500-8500hzd units can be installed essentially like an AC window unit would be, yet be advised if the intake/exhaust is exposed to atmospheric/ambient conditions, you would be also taking in the extra moisture from the atmosphere. This would result in the unit creating excess condensation and it would be wise to utilize the drainage stubs that these 3500-8500hzd units have.

Q:does it need to be vented outside? Is it fee standing or does it need to be mounted?
      by|Apr 13, 2017
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  Depending on which cooling unit, I cannot tell which one, but basically the htd and hzd units are self contained, preferably mounted on the top and vents to another room. You dont need an HVAC tech for these. If you need one that is a split system or ducted system, those need to be installed by HVAC. Hope this info helps. Make sure your wine room is air tight, so that you dont have condensation. Can be vented to another room, if you vent to the outside, you need an outdoor grill that wont rust.

            Works but noisy!
I had installed as per directions and the unit was so loud that I had to re-install myself and add all sorts of sound deadening material. Still far too loud. Going to give it one more try and if it doesn't work it's going back. It does work, it does keep a pretty constant temp +/- 2 degrees but the humming is not bearable.

            Good Value
I just plugged mine in a week or two ago and everything is fine so far. Some minor quibbles: The unit tends to short cycle due to the placement of the temperature probe under the cold air outlet. You need to extend the on/off temp gap above the nominal 4 degrees--to say 7 or 8 to get it to stay on long enough to cool the cellar. I called Vinotempt to ask if I could set it at 70 degrees, and they said no. I went to the max temp parameter and changed it from 65 to 70 degrees--no problem. Some of the other parameters are a little confusing--like the guy said if I increased the Fon to more than 0, the humidity would increase. I put it at 1 and it cycled on every 15 minutes for 1 minute, even while the cellar was at correct temp., so I put it back to 0. Bottom line is the controller lets you do almost anything you need to, but it takes a some fiddling to make sure the cellar stays at the right temp. Nice build quality. We'll see how long it lasts...

This is a great little machine
I bought this for my cellar under my staircase, It was easy to install. And cooled the room right down to 55 degrees with in 24 hours. I only have 100 bottles right now, but this machine is supposed to be good up 1000 bottles. Works great as of now. A bit noisy but i insulated around the machine and it quilted it down.
