How does this pergola handle high winds?

does this require 4 x 4 inserts for the posts or any other wood inserts
Asked by mc July 20, 2020All of our pergolas require 4X4 wood inserts for the posts and the Monterey requires 2X6's for the beams and rafters as well. Asked by Frank May 20, 2020The movable louvers only close at a maximum of 45 degrees and they overlap so that when the sun is at its hottest, directly overhead, you have full shade coverage. They do not close all the way so the snow will not pile up on them.

Does the shade slide to adjust for sun position or does it stay in one current, always open position? Can you slide it all the way to the side?
Asked by Libby May 16, 2020The Monterey has a movable canopy that will allow you to adjust for sun position. While you cannot slide it all the way to one side, you can get quite a bit of shade on each side. The pergola itself is covered by our 20 year manufacturer's warranty and you will never have to paint it or stain it.
What brackets do you recommend to bolt it down on a deck? What will I need to purchase additionally?
