That is not what we like to hear! Our Varathane Satin Polyurethane is a water-based clear coating, designed to impart a slight amber hue. This amber hue enriches the color of the wood, and will darken as additional coats are applied. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2

Let's talk through this, Dan! Please keep in mind that Rust-Oleum Varathane Polyurethane is a clear, oil-based coating with a slight amber tone and surface preparation is key for the best results. To ensure proper adhesion, surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of wax, grease, oil, shellac, lacquer, mildew, and polishes. Make sure to remove wax with a wax stripper, shellac with a paint stripper, and mildew with a solution of 10% household bleach and water. Sand using 150-220 grit sandpaper and remove all sanding dust using a vacuum, tack cloth, or rag dampened with mineral spirits. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

Hoping to hear from Rust-OleumSupport or anyone else for that matter. I purchased this product but I'm looking for something that yields a darker amber hue than this does. From what I now understand I should be looking for oil-based polyurethanes but those at Home Depot are labeled 'Clear'. So I'm not sure if they would have the darker amber finish or not, if you could let me know. Thank you.

Susan, our Varathane Satin Amber Polyurethane is a water-based polyurethane that is designed to mimic the amber hue found when using an oil-based polyurethane. Our Varathane Oil-Based Polyurethane does have an amber hue, and multiple coats of the polyurethane will deepen this color on the applied surface. will never use it again
Finishing a table top and the finish was drying while I was putting it down was clumping. Small table 3'×5' have to sand it down again and start over.only took me 15min to put the finish down!

We are sorry to hear of your experience with the Satin Amber Polyurethane. Polyurethanes tend to dry really quick, and if you keep back rolling the product will form clumps in the coating. You can add about an ounce to 2 ounces of water per quart to help with the flow of the product and slow down the drying time. This is my first time using this brand and I loved it!
Easy to apply.
Almost no odor.
Water clean up.
Fast drying time.
Next time I will get the larger size.
