Hi Clint, You may want to consider filling the hole with Varathane wood putty, sold by Home Depot. There are many colors to choose from so that you can get something that closely matches your existing color. The wood putty would give you a better color match. If you used some other filler product and want to use these markers to color that filler, the filler may not take the stain from these markers uniformly - or at all, depending on how porous it is. The wood putty is like a one-stop-shop solution for patching hardwoods and glossy wood surfaces.

They are like a magic marker. Once it dries I don't "think" it would be a problem.
