Varathane 1 Gal. Clear Satin Ultra Thick 2X Water-Based Floor Polyurethane is an ultra-thick floor finish that allows projects to be completed faster. Formula is 2X thicker and only requires 2 coats instead of the 3-4 coats typically needed. Water-based formula provides advanced self-leveling technology, exceptional scuff, scratch, and stain resistance along with the convenience of soap and water clean-up. Use on all interior wood floors and other surfaces including furniture, doors, trim and more.

Pee yellow film
Don’t buy un less you want a literal pee yellow film over your floors! I’m so angry because I have to move ! This horrible stain is all over my house & it also did not fully take there are many blotchy spots! It’s just terrible! I was in tears & have to rent drum sander to take the yellow film off! I’m having trust issues with any other verethane product! I should have splurged on Bona

Used product on stair treads, totally love it.
This product is amazing the job came out beautiful. I used it on the stair treads on my beach home to go over a solid stain by Behr. It was between this one and the Varathane Clear Satin Water-Based Floor Polyurethane. I am glad I choose this one since you only need 2 coats vs 4 coats. It was easy to apply, looks solid and super clear with no yellow. Highly recommend this product.

We used this product on our newly sanded and stained red oak floors in the whole downstairs of our house. We were in a hurry to move in so I opted for this since it can be recoated quickly. Ensured stain was thoroughly dry after several warm days and then applied two coats with a pad over a two day period as recommended. It went on evenly, dried clear and looked fantastic, but over the course of a month it started to turn milky. Now two years later our floors look like they have a sheet of semi-transparent plastic on them. I've been working with wood and finishes for years and never had this result, but have never used a water based polyurethane either. We finished a red oak stair rail at the same time with the same stain but different finish and it looks great. Could not be less pleased with our floors now. Will have to redo them sometime in the near future. Definitely not recommended for floors.

Something is amiss here, Jay! Hazing can occur when there is moisture trapped under the surface and it is unable to escape. It is essential that Rust-Oleum Varathane Ultra Thick Floor Finish is applied to a dry surface and only when relative humidity below 85%. Refinished my whole living room and dinning room with the cheap product. In less than 3 weeks it is totally scratched up! AND I've tried to be careful with it, BUT you can scratch it with your fingernail! This product looks nice till you use then and then expect it to just start falling apart.
Wish I knew how cheap and lousy it was before I refinished 500sq ft of floor with it.
This product is not worth buying. Save yourself the effort and find a BONA product that actually works.

Yikes, that's not we like to hear. Generally speaking, if you're seeing that the Rust-Oleum Varathane 2x Ultra Thick Water-Based Floor Polyurethane is scratching easily, it may not have enough product on. We require that two coats, at minimum are applied to the floor. The product covers approximately 320 sq ft per gallon. This means you would've needed just under 2 gallons per coat. With two coats required, about 4 gallons should have been applied to the floor to achieve appropriate performance. Dont Buy! Buyer beware it will dry clear but not cure clear, it might be a good protectant but it will alter your original color, screwing up a large job of mine, we then tested on other materials and other colors which it did same thing which the job products were verified compatible thru varathane. Most of job was done on maple wood and the pics are just additional pieces we did.

Something is amiss here! Our Varathane 2X Ultra Thick Floor Finish should dry crystal-clear over fully cured stain or paint. From the photos that you provided, it appears that there are brush marks or spatters of the polyurethane on the surface, which will result in an uneven finish. We need to know more about this application to get to the bottom of this, please give us a call at 800-901-0411, we want to try to make things right.

GOOD QUALITY FINISH
This finish is thicker than most. Label states that no sanding is required between coats if you re-coat after 3-5 hours and before 3 days. I first tested it on both soft wood Mahogany and hard wood Black Walnut to see how much it raised the grain. As instructed used no sealer, applied one coat, let set 6 hours and applied second coat without sanding. The grain was raised, still raised after second coat. Did a light 320 sand and applied a third coat which resulted in an excellent finish. Offers good scratch resistance, dries clear, very flat satin finish, only needed the one sand to make a super soft finish. May have been able to get away with only two coats had I sanded between coats. A good quality, hard floor finish that looks great all while using fewer coats of finish and no sealer. Would have given 5 stars if I really didn't have to sand between coats. Wood pic shows other low gloss finish by comparison to satin finish on lower pictured Mahogany and Walnut.

Clear Satin Ultra Thick Water Based Floor Polyurethane
This Varathane Clear Satin Ultra Thick 2X Water based Floor Polyurethane provided me with a finish which required only two coats and dried faster than any similar polyurethane that I have used in the past. The self leveling technology is amazing. I was able to cover a 12 x 15 ft. room (180 sq.ft) with two coats and had a little left over in a one gallon can.
Although this formula dries to the touch in 2 hrs. I elected to wait 24 hr before apply the second coat, just to be on the safe side. The satin finish provided a soft, low sheen appearance and seems to resist scuffing and scratching. Of course the water based product allows a quick and easy clean up.
The low VOC formula allowed me to use the room shortly after finishing with minimum odor.

Love this product
I do a lot of crafts and cover a lot of things with fabric. I always use poly to seal and to make stronger and more durable crafts.I make a lot of home decor items out of foam core sheets and cover with fabric and this poly is perfect. I like to use the floor poly because it is stronger and takes less coats. The drying time and low odor is awesome. It goes on smoothly, drys clear and I love the satin finish. I am not into "glossy" because I think it makes things look more plastic and does not have the elegant look of matte or satin. The clean up was a breeze for the brushes and sponges. I did my dining room table with a 54" drapery fabric. I glued on with wall paper paste, trimmed edges and then am in the process of putting 4 or 5 coats of this poly on top to protect it. This is the second table I have done. The other table is now 19 years old and looks like new. The entire table and chairs were painted and then 4 or 5 coats will be applied to protect those also.

Great finish, not just for floors!
While this finish is called a floor finish, I decided to try it on a knotty pine ceiling I’ve been working on, and the results were great. I applied it with a foam brush after sanding and sealing the pine. After the first coat dried, I lightly sanded with a woven scuff pad, removed the dust with compressed air and a tack cloth, and applied the second coat with a foam brush again. The picture speaks for itself, the finish turned out great. I wouldn’t hesitate to use this on not only floors, but for any other wood finishing project.
