Premium Fast Dry Wood Stains – One Coat Coverage
High performance, fast drying stain with one coat application. Perfect wood tone and enhanced wood grain in less time.
Start by Sanding
Sand in direction of wood grain with 120 grit sandpaper. Progress through 150, 180 and 220 grit.
Classic Penetrating Stain
Apply stain with the grain using a high quality brush or lint free cloth. Layer coats to build rich color.
One Coat Fast Stain
Cover with one liberal coat. Allow to penetrate for 5-10 minutes. Remove excess stain by wiping with cloth in direction of grain.
Protect with Poly
Use Varathane Polyurethane over surfaces stained with Varathane Classic or Fast Dry. Polys increase protection, durability and color retention.

Q:Does Varathane White Wash yellow over time?
We used Oil base Old Masters wiping stain on pine T&G & when I removed the decor on the walls, the walls were yellow behind the decor. Strange because the walls were still white from white wash.

If you like a soft light white on wood this works very well. We applied it like a stain. but you can brush it on. we used old rags and put it on thin so we could still see the woodgrain come through. Only issue was how we had to buy it.. I had to get two its. and I only needed less than one.. So what can I white wash now?…LOL!

I was wanting to try this product for
A huge project. I was wanting a white wash finish. My wood Was kiln dryer popular. Sanded with 80 grit. Basically did nothing. I normally do not write reviews but this product is a bad one. We'll take a look at the photo yourself. There is a possibility I got a bad can but doubt it. Going with the 1to1 paint and water.

Let's talk about this! If applying Rust-Oleum Varathane White Wash Wood Stain to a lighter wood, more applications may need to be done to allow for the best color. This is a semi-transparent product and will not be opaque like a paint. Bare wood should also be sanded with #120 grit sandpaper and progressed though #150, and #180 grits.

cool white color, enhances grain nicely
I was looking for a pale cool (bluish, not yellowish) gray color, basically a weathered-wood look but lighter. After applying Weatherwash Storm on maple wood, which is terrific for enhancing the grain while staying towards the blue, but it's still darker than I wanted (right side of photo). So I wiped on a thin layer of Varathane White Wash (left side of photo), and it's *perfect*, exactly what I wanted. Grain is still vivid, color is lovely. Easy to use, dried quickly, one coat was all I needed.
