Varathane 1 gal. Clear Satin 275 VOC Oil-Based Floor Finish Polyurethane (2-Pack) is a high-performance polyurethane formulated to provide durable, long lasting protection on interior hardwood floors. Self-leveling formula provides superior scuff, scratch and stain resistance. Premium polyurethane floor coating continues to deepen its amber look over time giving wood floors a warm, classic look.

Q:Can I use the 275 VOC Floor Polyurethane over a coat of the 450 VOC Floor Polyurethane? I?m calculating that I?ll need 3 gallons total for my coverage. I have 1 Gallon of the HD 130131 Polyurethane (450 VOC) and can?t purchase more of it in Colorado.

      A:  Thank you for reaching out! To help with the odor, we recommend ventilating the space during and after application of Rust-Oleum Varathane Oil-Based Floor Finish Polyurethane. Please keep in mind, odor sensitivity can vary from person to person as well. In ideal conditions, this coating is fully dry after 3 days and solvents should have dissipated from the coating. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

            The product left half the floor with a flat finish...
            The product left half the floor with a flat finish and half the floor with a glossy finish even though I stirred it carefully to ensure a good mix. Not confident in buying more of the same product to do over.

            Thank you for reaching out, James. We think we know what may have happened with your experience with the Rust-Oleum Varathane Oil-Based Floor Finish Polyurethane. The product contains flattening agents in it, and those tend to settle to the bottom of the can. If that isn't mixed as well, it'll leave a part of the floor shinier than the rest. Sheen concerns are generally only caused by that or the absorption of the product into the wood. If it's more porous, it'll end up being less shiny and additional coats may be needed.               It is a challenging product to apply on a large area. First coat has uneven application using lambs wool but I didn't feather at ends of stroke. Second coat applied using brush and worked much better as I've had lots of experience brushing.
