Formula is 2X thicker and only requires 2 coats instead of the 3-4 coats typically needed. Does this product can be used over oil based stains?

I had problems, I'll never us a Varathane product again. Now I'm realizing that this is the least of my issue as the finish is starting to peel 3 weeks into moving into the house, 6 weeks after application. .

Would I be able to use this on finished engineered hardwood?

Great question, Ruben. We do not recommend Rust-Oleum Varathane Ultra Thick Floor Finish for application to engineered hardwood. The top layer of engineered hardwood is thin and will not allow for proper surface preparation and sanding. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 4

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this product I do a lot of crafts and cover a lot of things with fabric. I always use poly to seal and to make stronger and more durable crafts.I make a lot of home decor items out of foam core sheets and cover with fabric and this poly is perfect. I like to use the floor poly because it is stronger and takes less coats. The drying time and low odor is awesome. It goes on smoothly, drys clear and I love the satin finish. I am not into "glossy" because I think it makes things look more plastic and does not have the elegant look of matte or satin. The clean up was a breeze for the brushes and sponges. I did my dining room table with a 54" drapery fabric. I glued on with wall paper paste, trimmed edges and then am in the process of putting 4 or 5 coats of this poly on top to protect it. This is the second table I have done. The other table is now 19 years old and looks like new. The entire table and chairs were painted and then 4 or 5 coats will be applied to protect those also.

I've been using Varathane for a long time and find it is a trustworthy product. Only problem is it comes in a two pack package. I couldn't find just one gallon. So I have an extra gallon to store. I will probably get used over time, but will definitely have lots of polyurethane on hand for awhile.

The only issue I have is that you HAVE to buy two gallons. I was only doing a set of stairs and a landing and needed a half gallon at most.
