Terrible result: Regret!!!
Heartbroken at result after countless hours sanding antique desk. I am skilled, experienced, followed directions, worked quickly, but this product set up SO quickly and inconsistently—it left streaks, marks and blobs that I couldn’t move after just seconds! Can says “1 coat application recommended”—will it get even worse if I try to do another coat!? Please do not ruin your project like I ruined mine. Use separate stain and poly!!! Took a chance to save time. :( Never again!!

That is not what we like to hear, Betty! It is normal for our Varathane Polyurethane and Stain in One to look streaky after just one coat. The product label refers to it being an all-in-one coating, both stain and polyurethane, however, this does not mean it is a one coat product. Additional coats can be applied with one hour dry time between coats, lightly sanding between coats with 320 grit sandpaper. A minimum of 2-3 coats are recommended to ensure the proper appearance and protection. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2 Rustoleum

This poly-stain product is amazing. It is such a time saver to not have to apply a coat of poly after you get done staining. It cut the production time considerably. It was very easy to apply and it gave me confidence that I could tackle any staining project. I will ALWAYS use this product in the future.

That is not what we like to hear, Averonica! With our Varathane Polyurethane and Stain In One, the color may appear lighter and uneven at first. The color and protective finish are built up on the wood as more coats are applied; 3 to 4 coats are usually needed for the best results. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2 Rustoleum

This stain is excellent! I love it! I usually use traditional stain and follow with polyurethane. I opted to try this stain as an all in one. Happy I did. Easy to apply, very low odor, and excellent coverage. Not sure about the protective coating factors as the project is just completed. I give it 5 stars this far.

It was very easy to apply and dried quickly to the touch. I just cleaned the surface removing any furniture polish or dust. I waited a couple of hours in between coats just to be safe. I used it on the bed in my guest room, I wanted it to match the wood flooring and espresso decor I purchased. Two coats was just enough to get the look I wanted.

We appreciate you reaching out to us regarding your concerns with the Rust-Oleum Varathane Stain and Polyurethane. We're surprised to hear of these concerns, and it's important to notate that if by chance the pigment has settled at the bottom of the can, that mixing it will help ensure even distribution of the stain. The color can also be affected by the type of wood that you're applying the stain to. If you happen to have the can still, we'd like a chance to talk further with you.
