Varathane 1 qt. Mahogany Satin Oil-Based Interior Stain and Polyurethane (2-Pack) provides a fast and simple solution to stain and protect wood in just one step. Stain and polyurethane is a time-saver that provides a rich color and polyurethane in one product allowing projects to be finished quickly. Using a high quality synthetic bristle brush, apply in thin coats until uniform coverage is achieved. At least two coats recommended, customize color or achieve a darker color by adding additional coats.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY
The stain and poly combo globs up, streaks, dries uneven, separates, runs, the list goes on! It’s not worth your time or money. We are 4 coats in and the color is nothing like it should be. Don’t cut corners. Use the stain and poly separate.

Oh no, not something we like to hear Bobbi. Varathane Premium Poly + Stain can only be applied to properly prepped bare wood. For best results, stir the contents thoroughly before use. Apply using a good quality, natural bristle brush or applicator, brush in the direction of the grain until a uniform film has been achieved. To prevent brush marks, avoid excessive brushing. Additional coats can be applied with one hour dry time between coats. Lightly sand between coats with #320 grit sandpaper. Product is incredibly tacky and scrapes off with a fingernail. After leaving to dry for an hour before the next coat it was just as nearly tacky as when applied. Left for 3 days to dry and it's STILL tacky. Trying to sand it, a gummy substance just rolls off the top of the wood. Save yourself a headache and just stain your wood and apply a top coat. Waste of money and time.

Do not buy
Stain seems to separate from poly. Globs up and bubbles. Stained items for years and this is the worst product I have ever used . Applied lightly but still comes out bad.

Not very good at all
Terrible. It is like spreading honey. Even on a warm day. So it is impossible to get an even coat so the satin and finish look good. Not good at all. Use traditional oil stain and separate poly coat.

At least 3 coats are needed. Hard to feather into...
At least 3 coats are needed. Hard to feather into each successive brushful without either leaving brush marks or putting thicker coat, which isn’t recommended.my photo is of my mantle after two coats. I plan on adding another two with light sanding using 400, then 800 grit between each.

I'm very pleased with the end results of this product....
I'm very pleased with the end results of this product. It made the job of staining my table a million times easier. I applied the first coat then sanded(after it dried) and reapplied staimer with rag. Best finish for top of tables. I did add a second color for a vintage look finish. Absolutely recommend this product.
