Shocked at the good reviews
The poor quality tip on this ripped within minutes of use. It is very hard to squeeze and apply at the same time. Very little stain comes out, have to do at least a few coats and it hurts my hand to press and apply. I'm going to cut the top off and use a brush. Should have bought the can :(

Easy to use w/ quick results!
We utilized the ebony stain and this gray stain on several antique pieces we received from our grandparents and parents. They were scuffed in several places due to old age and being moved from one location to another. We weren't looking to spend an astronomical amount to fix the pieces, but did want to touch them up a bit and these stains ended up being the perfect solution. They were easy to use, easy to blend, and dried quickly. We tested first to ensure the color matched, and I think that is key to ensuring these will work out for your own projects.

Easy to use applicator!
We hoped to use this product to touch-up some antique pieces we have from our grandparents and parents. We wanted something that would be easy to use while still providing a quality look. The applicator is incredibly easy to use and the product dried quickly. If you didn't know about the scratches on our pieces prior, you'd never know once we applied this stain. Blended in well with our pieces of this color.

Handy application especially for small jobs
I really like the Varathane 4 oz. Less Mess Golden Oak Wood Stain and Applicator. I have tested the stain against the can version and the color matched perfectly. The color is really a nice golden oak. I was concerned about the foam applicator being able to stand up until the bottle was empty but my fears are unfounded. The applicator is angled which makes getting into the crevices of detail work like molding easy. This delivery system is especially helpful for smaller jobs, touch up, and molding. And when I got done my hands were still clean!

Easy to use
Very easy to apply and keep and even coat of stain to maintain a color that you desire. Applies without a mess and covers up to about 4-5 square feet depending on how much you desire to apply, and the type of wood based on the woods ability to absorb the stain. I applied more than one coat to obtain the desired effect I wanted but others may need more or less depending on their personal tastes for darkness. I would recommend this product for small jobs or touch up.

Easy to use with less mess.
The Varathane 4 oz. less mess Golden Oak Wood Stain with applicator is so easy to use. Remove the plastic cap and press the applicator on the wood and move the applicator over the surface to spread the stain evenly. There is less mess than when using a brush and you're dipping in and out of a container of stain where you have a lot of drips to clean up as you go. Almost like polishing your shoes, now how easy is that.

Stain in a Bottle
This a new way to apply stain. It is very clean for the user. All you do is unscrew the cap, press down on the foam tip to open the seal. Then apply the stain.
That's what they say in the instructions. Applying the stain does require squeezing the bottle as stated in the instructions. However, I found that I needed to apply a constant pressure to get the stain out.
Once the stain is flowing, application is very easy and not messy at all. You can precisely apply stain where needed. Wipe off the stain before it dries.

Perfect way to apply stain
This is my second set of these as the other finish was absolutely great for several reasons. One being this applicator is just perfect for smaller projects. There is pretty much no mess when applying and it cuts down on project time as applying the stain is quick and easy. The golden oak finish looks great, and I’m happy to add this to my other bottles of stain. This is such a great way to apply stain, and I highly recommend it!

Easy application
Varathane 4 oz. Less Mess Golden Oak Wood Stain and Applicator works great! It works wonderful for small areas. Make sure to shake the container well before using the product. The sponge does take a bit of getting used to. Also squeeze the bottle slightly to get the stain to come out onto the sponge tip. I used this on some trim that needed restraining and it worked great.

Finally!!!! An easy way to apply stain!
I only use Varathane stain on my indoor projects as it is water-based and makes for easy clean-up but it was alway a hassle to wash brushes and other stain items after completing the project. BUT, Finally!!!! An easy way to apply stain! it comes in a liquid "shoe polish" type container and is easy - with NO MESS - to use and recap, and put away. For small projects, it is just right. it comes in 4 oz bottles and in a variety of colors. It came well packages with no damage to the product. ..... thank you Varathane!
