I really like the wood grain pattern but i need the 2 x 4 a darker color

How much grain you see will depend on the type of wood and how heavy you put on. However, usually you can still see a nice grain.

Does Varathane stain come in a larger than 8 oz can color American Walnut

It is oil base. The new oil bases have much less odor and dry much quicker. I stained a bed in the morning with this and slept in it that night.

The product works nicely however, the color on the can looks nothing like the color of the stain. Purchased a small can and was very unhappy with the actual color. Ended up resanding and purchasing another color in a much larger can than needed. Home depot did not have the second can I purchases in a smaller can. Ended up spending 3 times as much. Very frustrating. Product performs good however, manufacture needs to better color code the cans.

The color American walnut has more red base then brown. I will have to do over in dark walnut hopefully closer to the color I was looking for. Rated one star so someone else does not make the same mistake.

Dried to the touch within an hour and covered the surface evenly. One coat was all that was needed for my project. As with all stains, if you do not want a sometimes blotchy appearance, use a pre-stain.
