This is a professional grade battery charger at a fantastic price! Every feature I tested on this charger performed flawlessly. This smart charger will automatically determine they type of battery you have including marine, AGM, WET and Gel style and set the correct charging current with no input from the user! Also it being a smart charger you can leave a battery on the charger and not have to worry about over charging! The case does a great job protecting the charger from bumps and tips. I used this charger to test the alternator on my Jeep after I charged its battery and was also able to bring some life back into my riding mowers battery with the reconditioning mode! I like the small size of this charger and how all the cords can be stored in the charger and out of the way.

I haven’t had a dead battery yet, but my Buick’s battery has issues. I used the reconditioning mode the other day. I don’t really have a way to see if it made a difference. The charger itself is well made. The charge leads are plenty long enough for most applications. The wire gauge seems a little small for large amp draws. I guess time will tell. It is light and intuitive to use.

I really wanted to give this unit 5 stars, but I can't. First the PROs: The construction is top-notch; very solid feeling. The clamps are hefty metal, not cheap plastic. The feet under the front make reading the display much easier in horizontal mode, and it stands up straight on the back for reading while you are standing and using it. It puts out just over 16A on a full load (not bad for a rated 15A). The operation is clean and intuitive. If everything had worked, it would have been a solid 5 stars. Unfortunately, the CONs: The "BATTERY RECOND" function doesn't work at all. In fact, it actually drained a test battery from 11V down to just under 8V in a couple of hours. I measured the current, and it is just a few miliamps. I tested it steady-state as well as using the MAX/MIN function of my Klein DC Clamp meter, and there is just nothing there! I reached out to their support to see if there was something I wasn't understanding about the unit, but even after 2 phone calls (1:01 wait on the second one!!!) and promises of a call from someone from engineering, no one ever called. So if you are looking for something that will re-condition batteries, keep looking. The other CON with this unit is that there is no ability to set the max charge current - you just get whatever maximum current the battery will accept. Since smaller batteries typically charge at .2C - .3C (C is the amp-hr capacity of the battery), the max charge for an 18-A-hr battery for a kiddie car or scooter would be 3.6 - 4.6A. At 15 Amps, there is a real danger of overheating the battery if charged at that rate for too long, potentially ruining the battery. It really wouldn't be all that difficult to add a current set capability since the unit is processor-controlled already, and I hope that they add that to future models. If you just need a solid charger without the other bells and whistles, this will work fine, but I"m betting there are other units within the price range that will also do what this one won't.

Vector 12-volt Battery Charger is great, I need a good reliable battery charger not only for our vehicles on the ranch but also for the small 12volt batteries we use on gates and feeders. This unit is awesome, just hook the leads up and hit the charge button it takes it from there, Has a great viewable lcd screen (I don't need my glasses) to see what it is doing to the battery and how much charge it has. Very easy to use and user friendly. You can check the condition of batteries as well as your alternator on the vehicle to see if it is healthy. You can also check the battery charge level/recondition the battery and also give an emergency start to a vehicle. Buttons are big and easy to see. Love this compact little unit.

The Vector 12 volt charger/50A engine starter is a nice little unit. It is light weight, good size and has an easy to read display. The directions are clear and intuitive. The two issues I have with this are the bumper surround and the wire gauge. The bumper seems like it will be effective against small hits. And really, that’s all it should need. My concern is that it isn’t secured all the way around the face or the rear of the unit. It Is secure on the ends so it isn’t going to fall off, but the way it easily pulls away has me expecting it to warp in the Texas heat. The gauge wire seems a step or two light in my opinion. I haven’t noticed the wires getting hot in my limited use, but I would watch it like a hawk the first time I use the jump feature. The rest is very good. The length of the cord and cables are good. The storage for both is well done. The handles are solid and a good size. I wear a men’s large glove and the handles are very comfortable. The display is brightly backlit and easy to read. And it clearly shows you if you have it hooked up correctly for the task you are running. The buttons are clearly labeled and press with clear feedback. The battery voltage test and alternator tests are very fast. I am happy with it overall and expect that it will serve me well in my limited home use.

Vector 12-Volt Automotive Battery Charger (50 Amp Engine Start) – My battery charger/ maintainer worked great for 40+ years, but this past winter it stopped humming (and charging). Since I park my truck outside, I needed a new charger before this coming winter; I also use the charger to keep my tractor’s battery charged during winter. As a replacement, I opted on the Vector automatic charger because it has lots of features. Besides the 50-amp engine start, it has a 15-amp charging capacity for faster charges and automatically adjusts for maintaining batteries. I really like the LCD display for the information it provides: charging rate, battery voltage and alternator check. The charger itself is a compact size and its leads are a good length. It is easy to use and the user manual is clear and easy to understand.

The Vector battery charger is a great tool for anyone who does a lot of automotive work. At 15 amps of charging it can quickly charge a fairly large battery. Its very easy to use and includes a readout of what amperage is charging with an approximation of how much charge is on the battery. The leads are pretty long so it will be easy to reach the battery. The clamps open very wide so its east to clamp onto big terminals. I like the alternator check function. It's a great feature to quickly check and make sure it's just a bad battery and not a faulty alternator. It would be great to see the cord storage removed and replaced with a battery that can be used as a jump pack for cordless use. Maybe as an add on option. I would also like to see the front handles done away with to shrink down the size. Overall the vector battery charger is a great product with some very helpful features that performs great at its price point.

Very easy to use, fully automatic, very high tech battery charger/ maintainer/ car starter/ and battery reconditioner. This is just so much more than just a battery charger and starter. The microprocessors, with easy to read LED display, quickly determine the state of my battery and then charge it properly without risk of over charging. I frequently leave a car idle for several months and it is always ready to go when I return. Charging voltages vary from full charge, (15 amps) to a trickle charge for maintenance as needed. I found the alternator diagnostic very interesting. With just the standard battery connection and by pushing a button on the charger I can check the voltage output of my cars regulator both with and without car accessories being on. Another great feature is that when starting a car with a good but discharged battery, I usually have to charge the battery for a while before trying to start the car. This starter gives an automatic 60 second countdown, presumable giving the battery a preliminary charge, before trying to start the engine. Importantly, the clamps that fit on the battery/frame of the car are clearly marked, long enough to get the unit away from the car, and are very substantial. I have not as yet needed this unit to recondition a battery but every other function works perfectly. A lot of reliable versatility in a compact easy to store and reasonably priced unit.

I am quite impressed with this Vector battery charger. It has a lot of features that should be able to take care of any of your battery charging, “jump starting’ or other diagnostic needs. FEATURES I LIKED: - The LCD display is easy to read and the indicators/icons are intuitive. - Key functions include: Basic battery charging (15Amp), Battery Voltage check (how many volts your battery is putting out), Alternator check, Battery Recondition, and a 50 Amp Engine start feature (like a jump start) - After charging is complete, the charger goes into “float charge” mode to keep the battery topped off. - IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE: If you attempt to connect the charging cables incorrectly, the unit will flash a warning indicator and a warning will sound until the clamps are disconnected. - There is a cable winding area and a pair of stowage knobs for storing the battery clamps/cables, plus a special cavity to store the AC power cord. These work great and allow you to put the unit back in its box for storage. - The instructions are well organized and easy to read. - Temperature sensor icon (sun) that lets you know the surrounding environment is higher than 40 Degrees Celsius…. and a low-temp indicator (snowflake) that lets you know if the ambient temperature is less than 0 degrees Celsius (the unit compensates for this low temperature). It also has a caution-style icon to let you know if the unit is overheating. FEATURES I DID NOT LIKE: the only feature this charger did not have was the capability to charge 6 volt batteries (like older units do). Six-volt batteries are not very common, but occasionally you do come across them on things like yard equipment etc. Overall this is definitely a charger you want to keep in your garage during those cold winter months that can be especially harsh on vehicle batteries.
