Questions & Answers

Can this be turned off and on with a switch as needed?

Asked by: Josh
The unit does not come with an on/off switch. However you can install your own in you living area, like a hallway. I've installed a switch that can turn power on/off and has a light to show there is power to the unit. I also have a second light on my installed switch to show when the thermostat kicks in (motor is running). If your not familiar with wiring for electricity, I suggest you have it done professionally. Electricians will know where to find switches with lights if you choose to go that route.

Can install this fan on a already passive roof vent? In other words, can I remove the vent that comes with the fan and use only the fan?
Asked by: Curt
If you only want to use the fan then buy a fan that meets the performance value you require. Just because the word 'fan' is spelt the same does not mean all fans are the same. Take note of what you want from a roof vent and assess your requirements on performance and not price. Something that seemingly gives you what you want, may do so, but will often require continual replacement due to the poor quality of materials used.....is that what you want

So the unit is not overly complex to install and is overall a solid product. My concern is it appears the motor is the same as a standard box fan sealed motor and will last about as long, which is only a couple of years. Only time will tell with that. You read all sorts of reviews that you shouldn't install an attic exhaust fan, that its inefficient, you should use a whole house fan, etc... I can only go on a short time I have had this installed and my attic temperature readings were originally in the 120+ F mid-day before installation and now stay down temps stay down in the 100's for overall 10-20 F degree lower temperature difference. I cannot see how that wouldn't make cooling the house easier. I will monitor the electric bill over time and see what it might actually do to overall cooling costs.

I hope I get at least half that on this one. The install was simple, just lifted a few shingles and slid metal flange underneath and re-nail. Electric was already in place from the previous unit. I set the thermostat at the highest level (120) to turn on. I have a suspicion that this unit may be kicking in a little early. the unit appears to work as planned, there was an instant cool down in the attic, and shuts down automatically in the evening on temperature drop. I had a power on/off switch installed in my hallway living area to simplify control of electricity to the attic rather than using a breaker in the panel box. The on/off switch has a light to show that there is power to the unit and another light to show when the thermostat turns on (motor's running). So far, all works well. unit has been operating for a month. I'll up date this review in a year for follow up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Roof ventilator , does the job good. Nice fan, amazed how it quickly removes the heat, well weatherproofing, easy fast installation, has a little vibration and a motor humming sound which seem a little louder than normal but works great and I like the thermostat, it comes on at 85* then turns off when it's cooled down. It's only been in operation for a month now but works great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ventamatic Cool Attic fan We are very happy so far. Has certainly made a difference with cooling our house. We knew the old fan was ready to be replaced and we hope this one lasts 40 years like the old one! The old fan was plastic and the new one is metal, so that's a plus.

Very quit but can hear them just a tad. The metal hoods are much better then the old ones being they where plastic and not good in hail prone areas. Over all a very good fan.
