How loud/noisy is it? Where I can find submittals info?
Asked by: tedybear
This new one is much quieter then the old one we had. You can hear it come on and turn off but it’s not distracting as it runs. Our neighbor has an garage attic fan and I hear theirs more than ours.

How do I increase soffit air flow. The square footage of my attic is only about 420 sq. ft. and I don't really see any other air vents. I have had a similar unit in the attic for about 12 years but it's starting to make a lot of noise so I'm in need of a new one. I never paid attention of airflow when I installed it but now I'm reading about adequate air flow.
Asked by: Paul
Hi Paul if you are asking about knowledge of air flow there's a section in the library. Since you already had one of these you must have discovered the difference being without. Since I never did, I went with the most cfm I can afford. I believe the higher the number the more air movement. This unit is quiet and keeps a nice flow in my attic. Hope this helps.

Can this be turned off and on with a switch as needed?

Asked by: josh
The unit does not come with an on/off switch. However you can install your own in you living area, like a hallway. I've installed a switch that can turn power on/off and has a light to show there is power to the unit. I also have a second light on my installed switch to show when the thermostat kicks in (motor is running). If your not familiar with wiring for electricity, I suggest you have it done professionally. Electricians will know where to find switches with lights if you choose to go that route.

The fan is manufactured to be used in the manner shown. Change the manner of use and say goodbye to any warranty

Cool Attic 1400 CFM Grey Weathered Galvanized Steel Power Attic Roof Ventilator is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from My last unit lasted 24 years and was made in China. I hope I get at least half that on this one.... My last unit lasted 24 years and was made in China. I hope I get at least half that on this one. The install was simple, just lifted a few shingles and slid metal flange underneath and re-nail. Electric was already in place from the previous unit. I set the thermostat at the highest level (120) to turn on. I have a suspicion that this unit may be kicking in a little early. the unit appears to work as planned, there was an instant cool down in the attic, and shuts down automatically in the evening on temperature drop. I had a power on/off switch installed in my hallway living area to simplify control of electricity to the attic rather than using a breaker in the panel box. The on/off switch has a light to show that there is power to the unit and another light to show when the thermostat turns on (motor's running). So far, all works well. unit has been operating for a month. I'll up date this review in a year for follow up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive power to move hot air out Was a bit hesitant to cut a hole in the roof but instructions included with this unit guided me step by step. I am impressed with the amount of air this fan moves. I've had to increase soffit venting to ensure it has adequate air flow but overall, great buy!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pays for itself easy to install and wire up this replacement fan. Outer cover seems very durable and resistant to rust. Fan seems very powerful and effective although is a little bit loud (more so than the old one). From past experience, these attic fans are extremely effective to keep the attic heat from increasing temperature in the living areas (easily by 5 degrees or more) thus saving seasonal ac cooling cost by at least 15%. Pays for itself and long lasting w/o any required maintenance what so ever.

So the unit is not overly complex to install and is overall a solid product. My concern is it appears the motor is the same as a standard box fan sealed motor and will last about as long, which is only a couple of years. Only time will tell with that. You read all sorts of reviews that you shouldn't install an attic exhaust fan, that its inefficient, you should use a whole house fan, etc... I can only go on a short time I have had this installed and my attic temperature readings were originally in the 120+ F mid-day before installation and now stay down temps stay down in the 100's for overall 10-20 F degree lower temperature difference. I cannot see how that wouldn't make cooling the house easier. I will monitor the electric bill over time and see what it might actually do to overall cooling costs.
