We do not recommend splitting the bifolds, you would void your warranty in doing so. However if you are going to do it, I would use cabinet hinges with screws long enough to ensure a good hold. But that is just top of the head idea, as i have never used them in that application before.
You would have to check with your local Home Depot Millwork department to see which sizes they stock.

this product is a finish coat, making it a breeze to clean
Rip each set of doors .3125" on each side so that the overall width will equal 46-3/4" In other words, you'll take .3125" from the left and right side of each set of doors - 4 top to bottom rips in all remove 0.625" from each set of doors so in total you've taken off the 1-1/4" that you need gone to fit your opening. (the reason you take it from all 4 sides is because the doors will look weird unless you remove the same amount from each side since the framing is rather slim already and it will be visible to the eye to take twice as much from any one side)
